Creo que ya hace rato se había mencionado pero ya está mas claro con que motor viene, un V8 salido de un par de motores de Hayabusa y construído por Ariel:

Even with the stock 300-horsepower Honda four, the Ariel Atom is a verifiable supercar-slayer. So when the British track-car manufacturer announced they'd be building a bonkers 500hp V8 version, our interests were piqued, to say the least. But if you were expecting a bargain, think again. The latest reports, quoting Ariel's CEO Simon Saunders, indicate that the V8-powered Atom 500 will cost a very supercar-like £100,000, or about $160k in American greenbacks. At least.

That's about three times the price of the four-cylinder Atom 300. So why the huge price increase? Well, for starters, earlier reports that the Atom 500 would use the RS Performance-sourced 2.4-liter 10,000 rpm V8 from the Caterham Levante have proven inaccurate, as Ariel will be producing its own custom engine. Based on two Suzuki Hayabusa blocks but with a high proportion of custom parts, the engine alone is said to account for about £30,000 (~$50k); add to that another £11,000 ($17k) for the custom six-speed gearbox, plus the Alcon brakes and various carbon-fiber body parts and the figures start to add up pretty quick.

Que clase de sarandajo.. jeje primero sacar 500HP a un 2.6L aspirado y despues q solo pese 456 Kg, definitivamente fijo se le salen los pulmones por la espalda a uno en un aceleronazo...

Juee que rajado, yo creo que eso seria lo mas cercano de comprarse la versión de dos plazas de un F1, motor V8, carrocería tubular, etc.
Me llama la atención que el motor es trasero transversal (vean la posición de la caja respecto a los ejes) y adicionalmente, el motor se ve que es un bloque bien pequeño.
Definitivamente, esta gente está sola, que ganas de tener plata para comprarse un juguete de estos.

Ahora, la pregunta mía es: Es idea mía, o le cambiaron la forma un poco? No sé, me parece que me gustaba más el anterior (el que usaba motor Honda Supercharged)

lo q me pregunto es COMO PTAS mantener la estabilidad cuando acelera, porq aparte del tema de los pulmones q dice roberto, no creo que esa vara tenga campo para meter sistemas de traccion , estabilidad, etc ... entonces ???

Mclaren...me parece que este es mas ancho de Ejes que el anterior, me inmagino que de menor peso tambien ( no hay mucha inercia en las curvas que haga desviar al carro) y par el el downforce tiene el spoiler ese... me inmagino que ayuda bastante....

Ariel Atom 500 V8

Ariel announce the latest version of the Atom - the Ariel Atom 500, powered by a small V8 engine. With over 500bhp in a 500kilo package the Atom 500 will boast one of the highest power to weight ratios ever for a production car, ever. At over 1000bhp per tonne the Atom 500 will be the ultimate statement in performance and is destined to be made in a limited edition.

The V8 powered Atom is the first of some exciting developments from Ariel due to be released though 2008 and builds on the growing reputation that the company has for putting the passion back into driving and producing cars that are fun to drive as well as fast both on and off the track.

The 500 started life as a one off special project with RS Developments in 2007 and features the Russell Savory designed 2.4 litre V8 engine coupled to a 6 speed sequential Sadev gearbox. Developing over 500bhp at 10,000rpm the supercharged engine features all alloy construction, 5 valves per cylinder and a dry sump. The gearbox will have flatshift capability, a paddle gearchange with manual override as well as launch and traction controls.

Recognisable by the twin rear intakes for intercoolers the Atom 500 will feature a unique colour scheme for chassis, wheels and bodywork combined with carbon fibre panels and carbon fibre aerofoils. Other features will include chromemoly aerofoil wishbones, integrated function steering wheel, Alcon 4 pot caliper brakes and Dymag magnesium wheels.

Said Simon Saunders, Director of Ariel, 'This is an interesting project for us and an experimental departure from what we normally produce. For a few customers the Atom 500 will be the ultimate expression of lightweight performance and represents the outer limits of what is achievable in a road registered car. We also use this sort of project to explore the possibilities of how we can improve our standard cars. The Honda engined production cars already combine all the elements that we want in an Atom and by pushing the envelope to these sorts of extremes we can further improve the breed'.

The Atom 500 will be produced in Somerset at the new Ariel factory with the first car available from Spring this year. Prices have not yet been finalised but Ariel's commitment to performance for value will ensure that the Atom 500 is competitive in cost as well as performance.

With the standard Atom 300 already achieving sub 3 second times to 60mph and sub 7 second times to 100mph, the 500 will take this one stage further with record breaking production car possibilities.

Y ese del video dice q es de 300 hp o sea q no es tan rápido como el del tema ya me imagino lo q se debe mover esa vara con 500 hp

Y cuál será el carro más rápido ahi de los de top gear xq ahi pega el reflejo y no pude ver cual era.

Pero ahí falta el Caparo T1 porque JC lo descalificó porque aunque disque es de calle no podía pasar un muerto. Creo que después Caparo le montó susp hidr. ajustable para poder calificar pero nunca lo volvieron a sacar.

mae yo creo que Mitsu y Subaru se ponen de acuerdo todos los años para que el Impreza y el Evo sean los carros mas parejos del mundo

Mae sí es increíble ud ve en todo lado q a veces gana uno o gana el otro o empatan y todavía la gente se pone a pelear q no q camina más uno q el otro cuando los 2 son casi la misma vara.
