Hamilton: Sobre el papel Corea debe adaptarse a nuestro coche

El piloto de McLaren Lewis Hamilton cree que puede tener una "carrera positiva" en Corea del fin de semana próximo. El inglés necesita un buen resultado para estar en la lucha por el campeonato y reducir la ventaja de 31 puntos con Mark Webber, el actual líder.

"He pilotado en el Circuito Internacional de Corea en el simulador, y mis primeras impresiones fueron muy positivas", dijo Hamilton en la cuenta atrás para la ronda de 17 en el 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship.

"Sobre el papel, la pista debe adaptarse a nuestro coche muy bien - el primer sector es de alta velocidad con el final de la recta de salida / meta y con frenadas duras , ambos as principales características de nuestro coche.

"Y el sector del medio es rápido y fluido, es el tipo de lugar donde usted quiere un coche con un buen equilibrio y una buena carga aerodinámica. Creo que va a recompensar el compromiso - en realidad se siente como si fuera un trazado de piloto.

"El final de la vuelta es más lento y más duro, pero aún así es todo sobre el ritmo y fluido - es así, siempre y si la superficie de la pista es agradable y tiene buen agarre, creo que estamos listos para una carrera divertida por primera vez en Corea.

"Estoy deseando que llegue el fin de semana - Creo que podemos tener una carrera positiva. Aunque los resultados recientes no tienen necesariamente que continuar, hemos tenido un coche fuerte - ahora estoy esperando la oportunidad de demostrarlo ".

El piloto de Mclaren, Lewis Hamilton, no recibirá ninguna sanción en el próximo Gran Premio de Corea, según ha confirmado el jefe de la escudería británica, Martin Whitmarsh. Recordemos que Hamilon fue sancionado con cinco posiciones en la parrilla de Suzuka debido a que cambió su caja de cambios tras la calificación en Japón.

El británico terminó el Gran Premio de Japón sin la tercera marcha, lo que nos hacía pensar que para el siguiente Gran Premio tendría que volver a cambiar la caja de cambios y, por tanto, recibiría su correspondiente penalización.

Finalmente Hamilton no tendrá que cambiar la 'nueva' caja de cambios de Suzuka, ya que el problema que tuvo procedía de una pieza que se puede sustituir. Con ello, el piloto de McLaren se salva de una posible nueva penalización de cinco posiciones en la parrilla de salida del Gran Premio de Corea . Por es y por eso Hamilton no cambiará la caja de cambios que estrenó en Suzuka, como aseguró el mandamás de la escudería inglesa.

El equipo Mclaren envió un comunicado para aclarar esta circunstancia. "Lewis no recibirá ninguna sanción de cinco puesto en parrilla en la próxima carrera", dijo Whitmarsh. Que un equipo no pueda ser penalizado mas de dos veces por cambiar su caja de cambios no me lo creo porque en el reglamento dice lo siguiente:

a) Each driver may use no more than one gearbox for four consecutive Events in which his team competes. Should a driver use a replacement gearbox he will drop five places on the starting grid at that Event and an additional five places each time a further gearbox is used. Any replacement gearbox must be fitted with the same gear ratios that were declared under d) below and will only be required to complete the remainder of the Event in question. Any change to the gear ratios declared under d) below will incur a further five grid place penalty. In either case a new four race sequence may start at the following Event.
Unless the driver fails to finish the race (see below) the gearbox fitted to the car at the end of the Event must remain in it for three further Events. Any driver who failed to finish the race at the first, second or third of the four Events for reasons which the technical delegate accepts as being beyond the control of the team or driver, may start the following Event with a different gearbox without a penalty being incurred.
A gearbox will be deemed to have been used once the car's timing transponder has shown that it has left the pit lane.

No gearbox penalty for Hamilton in Korea - Whitmarsh


Lewis Hamilton will not be taking a five-place grid penalty in Korea next weekend, his team boss Martin Whitmarsh has confirmed.

The McLaren driver moved five places down the Suzuka grid due to an unscheduled gearbox change before qualifying, and he then finished the Japanese race without third gear that further dented his fading championship hopes.

It is believed a dog-ring failed in Hamilton's replaced gearbox, but Whitmarsh said in Japan that he was "confident" it could be fixed without incurring another five-place penalty for Korea.

But he also told reporters at Suzuka that the second issue would not be a problem for Korea, despite the new gearbox potentially not lasting the mandatory four races.

"We've taken the penalty for this weekend so we have a free gearbox change for the next race," said Whitmarsh.

On Friday in a team statement, the Briton moved to clarify the issue.

"Lewis will not face a second successive five-place grid penalty" in Korea, said Whitmarsh.

"The gearbox regulations were framed to ensure teams weren't penalised twice for the same gearbox issue, so Lewis will go into the weekend without risk of further penalty," he added.

John Booker que es uno de los experimentados oficiales de pista enviados al circuito de Corea por la Confederacion Australiana de los Deportes de Motor con el fin de preparar y dar apoyo a los 700 Coreanos que se estrenaran como oficiales este fin de semana, comenta como ve el estado del circuito de cara a este fin de semana.

The circuit itself is ready for Friday morning’s first session. However, the circuit site itself is very much under construction and will remain that way for the event. But it won’t interfere with the race, just look rather unglamorous on the TV.

There are supposed to be lakes inside the circuit (between turns three and eight) as well as the marina around the final section which are very much just dirt pits at the moment. Word is that they wont be completed until next year.

Their plan for the circuit is very ambitious with the positive effect of giving the Korean’s facilities that can be used for many purposes all through out the year, including a permanent race track. Much better than some of the other new circuits which are only used once a year for the same cost.

The teams’ cargo pods arrived yesterday and all the teams bar two were in the process of getting their garages set-up. HRT hadn’t even opened a single pod while Ferrari were completely set up with both cars in the garage and everyone there is sitting around waiting for Thursday.

Today is our rest day while the circuit contractors make all the minor changes to the track we requested after yesterdays inspection and we will be back at the track tomorrow (Wednesday) for another inspection. Most of the issues are purely line of sight issues between posts due to advertising signs (a problem which also occurs at Albert Park).

Thursday will be the FIA speed test where they run the safety car around to test timing lines and we use it as another full circuit test for all marshals.

There is only one support category which is the Hyundai Genesis Series, which is a touring car series run in South Korea. They will have one practise session on Friday, one qualifying session on Saturday and one race on Sunday.

Continued concern over Korean circuit

There is growing concern as to whether the Yeongam circuit is really fit to host a race this weekend.

Although it passed the FIA's inspection last week, there is widespread feeling that the process has been rushed through and that the event should have
been postponed until next year.

While work on the "leisure themed corporate city" is not due to start until
late next year, it is the state of the track, not to mention lack of facilities, that are causing concern.

Though Bernie Ecclestone and the FIA insist that all is well, tweets and newspaper comments from various F1 people paint a rather different
picture.

Roger Benoit describes the circuit as an "enormous construction site" dominated by "excavators, debris and waste" in Blick, claiming that his hotel
room is one of the ones usually rented by the hour.

"F1 in Seoul? Nah, let's have it in the middle of nowhere 100s of miles from anywhere," tweets photographer Darren Heath. "Much remains to be done," admits Marc Surer in Speed Week, claiming that much of the grandstand seating is not complete. Referring to the actual track he adds: "I am surprised that it is ready. Whether it can withstand hours of practice and racing, however, is another question."

While Williams turned down the accommodation on offer in favour of better facilities elsewhere that involve a three-hour round trip, Auto Motor und
Sport reports that rollers are still being used on the track surface. "Only on Friday will we know whether the surface will withstand the stresses of
formula one cars," says the German publication. "Everything on the site is under construction. Next to the pitlane is a large pile of sand. Whoever
didn't know that F1 is running here in a few days would think it's not happening until next year."

Primera toma de contacto de Alonso con el circuito de Corea



Fernando Alonso, como la mayor parte de pilotos y miembros de los equipos, está ya en Corea con las miras puestas en el antepenúltimo Gran Premio de la temporada. El piloto asturiano se desplazó a Yeongam en la mañana de este miércoles para tener la primera toma de contacto con el trazado, el cual pasó la inspección final de la FIA hace sólo una semana.

"Llegué a Seúl ayer por la noche y esta mañana me puse en camino a Yeongam, el emplazamiento del primer Gran Premio de Corea de la historia. Tras comer me fui al circuito porque quería comprobar por mí mismo cómo estaba la pista", comentó Fernando en su blog de la web oficial de Ferrari.

El español tiene muchas ganas de dar la primera vuelta al circuito en su monoplaza para tener las primeras sensaciones reales, pues de momento ha de conformarse con lo probado en el simulador: "Cuando llegas a un circuito nuevo tienes aún más ganas de lo habitual de pilotar, así que los dos días que nos separan de dar la primera vuelta en la mañana del viernes se harán muy largos."

"Debo decir que las primeras impresiones son positivas. Lo primero es que no hay grandes sorpresas respecto a lo que vimos en el simulador las pasadas semanas y en realidad se parece mucho. Parece ser un circuito muy interesante, donde pilotar debería ser divertido, especialmente el sector final."

"¿A qué circuito se parece? Es una mezcla de varios. El primer sector me recuerda mucho a Bahrein: largas rectas con frenadas fuertes que dan paso a curvas de 180 grados. El segundo es parecido a Turquía, especialmente la curva 11, que te recuerda a la curva 8 de Estambul, mientras que el sector final se parece al tercero de Abu Dabi."

Fernando, que está actualmente segundo en el campeonato a 14 puntos del líder, sitúa la curva 3 como uno de los puntos claves del circuito, y considera que la carrera de este domingo puede ser emocionante:

"Creo que podemos tener una carrera espectacular: hay al menos un par de sitios donde adelantar parece posible, especialmente en la frenada para la curva 3, la cual se sitúa al final de una recta que tiene más de un kilómetro de longitud. Debería haber mucha acción ahí en la primera vuelta de la carrera, más de la que veremos en la salida."
