Costa Rica tendrá 5 kartistas en el Winter Tour 2006



Los pilotos costarricenses Andrés Solano, Manolo de Oña, Tomás Quirós, Daniel Formal y Charlie Fonseca, tomarán parte del campeonato de kartismo Winter Tour de la Florida, el cual arrancará este fin de semana en la pista de Homestead.

Florida Winter Tour – Round #1 Preview


A record breaking weekend is expected for the opening round of the 2006 Formula Kart Racing Florida Winter Tour presented by BTK/Arrow Racing Karts. Over 400 pre-entries have made their way south to the Homestead-Miami Speedway karting circuit for the three-day event. Drivers will practice all day today and will then enjoy two full days of racing on Saturday and Sunday.

“I think that the turnout is a reflection of the level of commitment of everyone involved in the Tour,” stated Formula Kart’s Bill Wright. “That includes my staff, the racers and shops, the sponsors and awards providers, and the karting media. All of those things and people, working together for the last eight years, have brought us to this point.”

The first event is loaded with national drivers and teams preparing for the upcoming season, all supporting the popular winter series. Super Kart Illustrated has recognized this and recently added the full Florida Winter Tour schedule to the list of events that will be counted toward the SKI Driver Rankings for ICC and ICA competitors. Another incentive for the driver and teams is the award program that the FWT has set up for the 2006 season. The headline Pro Shifter division will be awarded a guaranteed $20,000 purse, while Skip Barber is providing almost $16,000 in three-day competition events to the class champions in Expert Shifter, Rotax Max Senior, JICA, and Rotax Max Junior.

“I’ve said it many times,” added Wright. “We (the Tour) are only as good as the people who race with us. Without the cooperation of this highly skilled group of racers and crews, we couldn’t get the job done. This weekend and every weekend will test the racers and staffs ability to keep our tradition of excellence in place. I hope we’re up to the challenge.”

Other special guests visiting this opening weekend include World Karting champion and chassis manufacturer Mike Wilson, who will be putting on a clinic on Friday evening, and SKI Editor-in-Chief Rob Howden, who will be strapping on the helmet to compete in the TaG Heavy division, racing under the FirstKart.com tent as part of a new Rotax build-up program for the pages of SKI. Another driver to keep on eye on during the weekend is newly-signed Forsythe Racing Champ Car Atlantic Championship driver Leonardo Maia, who will be running in the Stock Moto division.

Due to the size of some classes, the format of the event may be changed to accommodate split qualifying sessions. Wright stated that they could implement CIK standards for the maximum number of karts allowed to participate in on-course sessions.
