Le Mans Series 2009: 1000 Km de Barcelona, 5 de Abril

La Le Mans Series regresa a Barcelona este 5 de abril, abriendo la temporada. En su segunda vez en Monmeló, presenta nada menos que 12 LMP1, 16 LMP2, 4 LMGT1 y 14 LMGT2



Aston Martin Racing con sus Lola Aston Martin, Courage-Oreca de los equipos de Hugues de Chaunac y Signature Plus, los dos Pescarolo del equipo oficical, dos Ginetta Zytek y un Lola Coupé motorizado también por Aston Martin, se enfrentarán al enemigo a batir, que no es otro que la escudería Kolles con los Audi R10 que vienen de ganar en Sebring (ALMS) con el nuevo modelo.



En LMP2, 16 bólidos, nueve chasis distintos, equipos de 7 nacionalidades y tres fabricantes de motores de los 5 que se preveen para la temporada



En LMGT1 los equipos franceses se enfrentarán a a las escuderías venidas del Este con los eslovacios de ARC Bratislava-Kaneko y su Saleen S7-R, los rusos del IPB Spartak Racing con su Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT. Dos equipos 100% galos son el vencedor del 2008 Luc Alphand con su Corvette C6.R y el Saleen S7-R de Larbre Competition.

En LMGT2 nada menos que 14 coches: Porsche 997, Ferrari F430, Lamborghini Gallardo, Aston Martin Vantage...

Los españoles lamentamos que Peugeot no venga, y por ello Marc Gené no tendrá la oportunidad de brillar en casa, como tampoco está alineado la estrella nacional del año pasado, el EE1. Pero oficialmente hay un equipo español en LMP2: Q8 Oils Hache Team pero en su web no pone nada de su participación en LMS

Victoria de Aston Martin en los 1.000 kms. de Cataluña!!!!!!

El Lola Aston Martin pilotado por los checos Jan Charouz y Tomas Enge y el alemán Stephan Mucke se ha impuesto en los 1.000 kilómetros de Cataluña, prueba de las Le Mans Series disputada en el Circuito de Montmeló.

El podio lo han completado el Pescarolo Judd de Pescarolo Sport de los franceses Jean-Christophe Boullion y Christophe Tinseau. superado en la última hora de una carrera que llegaron a dominar; y el Oreca del Team Oreca Matmut AIC del monegasco Stephane Ortelli y el brasileño Bruno Senna.

Aston Martin team takes first win at Barcelona

Aston Martin Racing secured the first win of the season in the European Le Mans Series in Barcelona, Spain, after a tense and dramatic race. The Factory AMR Lola completed the 209 laps in just over six hours clocking up some 621 miles in the first race of the season, the 1000km de Catalunya.

"This momentous victory is a fantastic reward for the many weeks and months of hard work put in by every member of the team. Endurance racing is above all a team sport, and I think that we have proved this once again today," said David Richards, Chairman of Aston Martin.

The LMP1 #007 Aston in the hands of Stefan Mucke, Jan Charouz and Tomas Enge was in second place chasing the lead #16 Pescarolo-Judd driven by Christophe Tinseau and Jean-Christophe Boullion but in the last round of pitstops the Pescarolo-Judd failed to pull away and required the engine to be restarted.

"It's been a really impressive debut, and I've had a very good feeling with the car throughout the weekend. I'd like to thank everybody for doing a fantastic job, I think this sets us up really well for a successful continuation to the season. I had no problems at all during my stints, and most importantly we have learnt a lot for the future," said Charouz.

Fellow driver Enge added, "This is the perfect way for us to start our season, and the car has been very good from the beginning. The only problem I've experienced is a lack of rearend grip sometimes, which is what caused my spin. But luckily no harm was done and we did not lose much time. During my stint I tried to keep up with the leading Pescarolo but it was very tricky. In the end though it was a great result for everyone."

The Aston in the striking orange and blue livery with Mucke at the wheel seized the opportunity and was able to close right up on Tinseau in the Pescarolo. A safety car period in the closing stages allowed Mucke to get right on to the tail pipe of the Pescarolo and he overtook just six laps later. Tinseau tried to fight back but ended up some 14 seconds adrift of the leader by the end of the race.

"I'm absolutely delighted with this result, but it was a very close call at the finish. It was so tight at the end that I really did not know which way everything would go," commented Mucke. "Eventually we were able to take advantage of the safety car to close up, and then we found a gap in the traffic to pass the leader. He went to the inside, we went to the outside and thankfully it worked. Once we were through, I think we proved that we had the pace to win."

Third place looked to be in the bag for the second AMR car until Miguel Ramos went off the track in the closing stages and was unable to get going again. The #2 AIM-powered Courage ORECA, with Bruno Senna and Stephane Ortelli came past to claim the position and the final step of the podium.

The Signature Racing Judd Courage ORECA with Pierre Ragues and Frank Mailleux picked up fourth place one minute and ten seconds behind the third position Courage ORECA.

The polesitter Strakka Racing Ginetta-Zytek, driven by the all British line up of Danny Watts, Peter Hardman and Nick Leventis lost out at the start and dropped to 4th place before the first corner, they were to eventually finish fifth. The suspicion of a jump start by some of the competitors which dropped the Strakka Racing car so far back was claimed to be for safety reasons and no drive through penalties were awarded

In LMP2 the Italian Racing Box team took the class win in a Lola-Judd coupe in the hands of Thomas Biagi, Matteo Bobbi and Andrea Piccinni. The next closest car was ASM Team Ginetta Zytek driven by Olivier Pla and Miguel Amaral some 46-second adrift.

The Reiter IPB Spartak Lamborghini Murcielago took the LMGT1 victory in a class that contained just four cars. The Luc Alphand adventures Chevrolet Corvette C6.R was looking good for the class win but spun out and lost the place.

Porsche scored victory in GT2. The factory drivers Richard Lietz and Marc Lieb took the LMGT2 class win in the Felbermayr Proton Porsche 911 GT3-RSR with Rob Bell and Gianmaria Bruni in the JMW Motorsport Ferrari second.

LMS: Emocionante victoria de AMR en Montmeló. García 5º en GT2- Carrera

El campeonato Le Mans Series tuvo un inicio de temporada realmente atractivo en el Circuit de Catalunya. El trazado catalán vivió, además de la disputa por la victoria general, unas interesantísimas luchas intestinas por cada una de las categorías que conforman la parrilla.

La carrera tenía su inicio a las 11,30 horas de la mañana, y desde esos primeros metros los Aston Martin emergieron de forma imponente. En la arrancada el autor de la pole position, Danny Watts con el Ginetta-Zytek 09S Zytek de Strakka Racing, efectuaba una mala arrancada que hacía que los dos Lola-Aston Martin oficiales y el chasis privado B08/60 de Speedy Racing Team Sebah le adelantasen. Los coches británicos eran rapidísimos conducidos por este orden por Stefan Mucke, Andrea Belicchi y Darren Turner, aunque pronto surgiría por detrás su principal opositor: el Pescarolo-Judd de Jean-Christophe Boullion.

El coche francés, tras adelantar al Ginetta-Zytek de Strakka Racing, se iría acercando a los líderes sobre todo aprovechando muy bien su estrategia como el safety car, el primero de toda la carrera, a los cuarenta minutos de iniciarse ésta. Con el propio Boullion y muy bien secundado por Christophe Tinseau, el equipo Pescarolo Sport tomaba el liderato al filo de la primera hora, lugar en el que permanecería durante gran parte de la carrera.

Sin embargo David Richrds y los suyos supieron actuar con frialdad. Si bien Pescarolo fue un sólido líder durante muchísimos minutos, en la parte final de la prueba Aston Martin Racing realizó algunas modificaciones en el set up del mejor de sus coches, el pilotado por Tomas Enge, Jan Charouz y el anteriormente mencionado Mucke. Con estas modificaciones se corrigieron algunos problemas de neumáticos que les había afectado lo que, unido a un safety car a falta de 35 minutos, precisamente provocado por el segundo Lola-Aston Martin oficial pilotado en ese momento por Miguel Ramos quien trompeaba, hacía que Tinseau perdiera toda su ventaja frente a Mucke.

Cuando quedaban apenas veinte minutos de prueba, Mucke adelantaba por el exterior y valiéndose de una gran gestión del tráfico, a Tinseau y se marchaba a por la primera victoria de Aston Martin en LMP1. Tinseau, que se quejaba amargamente en rueda de prensa del tiempo que habían perdido en boxes, acaba a catorce segundos.

La tercera posición era para el Courage-Oreca LC70 AIM de Bruno Senna, que tenía un magnífico debut, y Stephane Ortelli. Después de los problemas de los Lola-Aston Martin de AMR y Speed Racing Team Sebah, Oreca consegía llevar hasta el podio a uno de sus coches por un estrecho margen sobre el Courage-Oreca Judd de Signature Plus, quien realizaba una carrera muy sólida gracias a Franck Mailleux y Pierre Ragues.

La quinta posición era para el autor de la pole, el Ginetta-Zytek de Strakka Racing y la sexta para el segundo de los Pescarolo-Judd de Joao Barbosa y Bruce Jouanny. Entre las decepciones los dos Audi R10 TDI de Kolles quienes sufrían múltiples problemas que les llevaban bien a la retirada o a acabar muy retrasados.

En LMP2 la victoria era para Racing Box, equipo que debutaba aquí con los chasis Lola B08/80 Judd y que también lograban la pole position. Sin embargo a diferencia de los entrenamientos, la carrera era para el en teoría su primer coche, el de los italianos Andrea Piccini, Thomas Biagi y Matteo Bobbi, quienes conseguían la victoria por apenas una cuarentena de segundos sobre el Ginetta-Zytek 09S Zytek de ASM Quifel con Olivier Pla y Miguel Amaral.

Foto: J.S. DuraEl equipo español Hache Team experimentó una carrera muy complicada con su Lucchini-Judd para Máxi Cortés, Enrico Moncada y Fabrizio Armetta. Cortés hacía tiempos bastante remarcables dadas las circunstancias pero el coche experimentó, otra vez, problemas muy graves que le impedirían acabar la carrera tras afectar a la suspensión y caja de cambios.

Entre los Gran Turismo, en GT1 primera victoria para Lamborghini con un Murcielago R-GT de Spartak Racing pilotado por Roman Rusinov y Peter Kox. Aunque en las primeras horas el líder en su categoría fue el Chevrolet Corvette C6R de Luc Alphand Aventures, una salida de pista les costaría la victoria que sería para los rusos. Luc Alphand todavía eran segundos siendo terceros el Saleen S7R de Larbre Competition.

En GT2, donde estaba Antonio García, el piloto madrileño era el primer líder de la categoría por delante del Porsche 997 RSR de Patrick Pilet. Desgraciadamente para el de Team Modena el desenlace de la carrera no sería tan bueno como a lo que él está acostumbrado. La mayor autonomía de los Porsche, hasta dos vueltas, y un trompo de su compañero Leon Mansell les harían terminar quintos. La victoria, inapelable, era para el Porsche de Felbermayr Proton para Marc Lieb y Richard Lietz. Los Ferrari de JMW Motorsport y Hankook Team Farnbacher completaron el podio.

La próxima carrera será en Spa-Francorchamps los días 8, 9 y 10 de Mayo con la presencia de Peugeot con tres de sus coches. Antes de éso, los equipos estarán en unos tests colectivos en Bugatti a final de mes.
