Flavio Briatore claims that Fernando Alonso and Renault enjoyed an excellent relationship, unlike at McLaren, where he faced "unfavourable conditions".
The Spaniard endured a tumultuous season with the Woking-based constructor and Briatore told Autosprint: "That would never have happened with us, because we work in complete transparency".
"When (Riccardo) Patrese, or (JJ) Letho, lamented their car being slower than Schumacher's, I would tell the team: 'give him that car, change the pedals, and put him on the track.'"
The Renault chief explained that he did not have any problems with Alonso when he raced for the team between 2003 and 2006.
"We overestimate drivers. They are twenty, twenty-five years old and we expect them to always behave like mature persons. We must take the human aspect more into consideration.
"They fall into situations that are bigger than them and sometimes we don't help them. But Fernando never had problems with us."
The feisty Italian explained that teams tend to give preferential treatment to the best drivers. He intimated that this caused the rift at McLaren - as Ron Dennis allegedly favoured his team-mate Lewis Hamilton.
"I think help always goes to the strongest drivers. It happened with Schumacher and with other drivers... except Fernando. Alonso has always had some unfavourable conditions," noted Flav.
"In my opinion he's always found some hurdles, both this year and last year..."
