First 4WD Pedal Powered Kart for the Trail

Perhaps the next wave in karting fun is the Trailcart. Declaired as the the world’s first pedal-driven four wheel drive off-road vehicle, creator Frank Fraune of Germany has teamed up with AS Group and the two are currently testing prototypes.

The Trailcart uses high-end mountain bike components such as Shimano's Nexus 8-speed drivetrain as well as a double-action mechanical hydraulic braking system. One of the goals is to keep weight below 50 kg (100 lbs) which is typically the limit for car mounted bicycle racks.
