December 6, 2011 - When the Red Bull Kart Fight at PRI (Performance Racing Industry) powered by Rotax was announced in the mid-summer months, Floridian pilot Daniel Formal was determined to compete. Taking place during the large industry show at the Orlando Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, Formal would look to battle with multi-time race winners, world champions, professional drivers and fellow karting peers on the tight and twisty temporary circuit.
"This event is so cool," expressed Formal after winning the karter division at the Thursday night event. "To drive on a track like this is physically demanding and to do it in equally powered karts in front of a crowd of more than 3500 says a lot for the efforts put behind this event. I am already looking forward to next year."
Competing on an Rotax powered Intrepid chassis, Formal would battle with 30 other hungry karters looking to claim a top eight finishing position to have the chance to race against the pros. Racing against a field littered with world champions including Bas Lammers, Jonathon Thonon and recently crowned Rotax Senior World Champion Ben Cooper, Formal was up for the challenge as well as the bragging rights that would follow the event.
After qualifying in the third position, Formal drove a smart and steady prefinal race to move up one position and garner a front row starting spot for the 40 lap main event. With a wheel-to-wheel battle to ensue, Formal was mentally and physically prepared to stand atop the podium and when the final flag had flown, the multi-time champion would be the first to cross the line.
With the top eight karters from their final lining up at the tail of the All-Star race, Formal would start shotgun on the field in the 22nd position. Racing with drivers from IndyCar, NASCAR, Grand-Am and the American Le Man Series, Formal drove a spirited race to come home in the eighth position.
Formal added, "I can't thank everyone that has helped me get to where I am today. This is a great win for me and will provide a major boost of confidence as we head towards 2012."
Daniel Formal would like to thank his 2011 partners including: Intrepid North America, HRS Engines, IMAF Seats, Advanced Karting and K1 RaceGear.
