Bodine Battles Back to Beat the Field In Las Vegas - Leaves Las Vegas With First-Place Prize and 10th Tundra Triumph
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (September 24, 2005) -- Todd Bodine dominated the field and then passed race-leader Ted Musgrave on the final lap -- in a green-white-checkered flag finish -- to win this evening's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. A late race caution period extended the scheduled 146-lap event six additional laps -- leading to the last lap shoot-out.

Bodine dominated the race in his No. 30 Germain Racing Tundra, leading the field four times for a total of 114 laps, including the final lap. The win was Bodine's second NCTS win this season and the fourth of his Craftsman truck Series career. In addition, it was the sixth NCTS victory for a Tundra this season, and the 10th win for TOYOTA since joining the Craftsman Truck Series at the beginning of the 2004 season.

"I was pretty mad at myself for letting Teddy (Musgrave) get past me," said Bodine, following the race. "I just made a mistake and let him get by. I had a little bit of a lead, went into Turn 3 and then I got sideways -- and Teddy ran right by me. He got right behind me, got me loose, and then passed me. I finished second here last year, and was not going to finish second again."

While running second after the caution flag came out on lap 146, Bodine was thinking about how he could regain the lead. "I spent that whole caution period (laps 146-150) thinking of different scenarios, and what was going to happen," explained Bodine. "I really didn't know what was going to happen because Teddy was so good. But, when I got behind him my Tundra would tighten-up enough where I was able to get some grip."

On the final lap, Bodine made his move on the outside of Turn 3 and was able to cross the finish line .297 seconds ahead of Musgrave. "Teddy just got down on the inside there in Turn 3 and slipped, and I just drove to the outside and it stuck," explained Bodine.

"Our Tundra was just incredible," said Bodine, after the event. "The longer it ran -- the stronger it got. It was an unbelievable truck. Mike Hillman, Sr. (team manager) and Mike Hillman, Jr. (crew chief) have put together what I think has got to be the best teamin Craftsman Truck Series history. They are awesome."

Four other Tundra drivers finished among the top-15 at Las Vegas. Mike Skinner crossed the finish line sixth in his No. 5 Bill Davis Racing machine, and Brandon Whitt ended up ninth in his Red Horse Racing Tundra. Both Darrell Waltrip Motorsports drivers also finished among the top-15, with David Reutimann (No. 17) recording a 12th-place finish and Joey Miller (No. 12) coming home 15th in his very first NCTS race.

In the NCTS championship point standings following the first 20 races of the 2005 campaign, three TOYOTA drivers are among the top-15 in the standings. Mike Skinner is fourth in the standings with 2,627 points, just 250 points behind leader Dennis Setzer. Tundra drivers behind Skinner in the standings are Todd Bodine (2,593 points), who now sits in fifth-place, and David Reutimann (2,493 points) in ninth-place in the standings.

The next race on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule is at Martinsville Speedway, October 22.
