HANDICAP WEIGHTS
79. Ballast weight handicaps will be applied as
follows:
a) A 10kg handicap weight will automatically be
allocated to each driver from the 1st Championship
event in which he takes part.
b) To all the drivers taking part in each Championship
race meeting, according to the sum of the points
obtained in the two races.
Weight handicaps are imposed according to the
following scale:
1st: +20kg
2nd: +15kg
3rd: +10kg
4th: +10kg
5th: +10kg
6th: + 5kg
7th: + 5kg
8th: + 5kg
9th: - 5 kg
10th etc.: - 10 kg
In the case of drivers having scored the same number
of points at the end of an Event, the highest handicap
fixed for the relevant positions will be applied to all;
i.e.: if two drivers are classified equal 2nd, they will be
given the 15 kg handicap weight for 2nd place, while
the 10 kg handicap weight for 3rd place will not be
awarded.
The maximum handicap weight imposed under 79 a)
and b) is set at +40 kg and the minimum is set at -10
kg. Subtraction of a weight handicap is applied only to
the weight handicap added as per Art. 79 a) and b).
c) To all drivers having scored Championship points:
5 kg for every 10 points scored; i.e.: 0 kg from 0 to 9
points, 5 kg from 10 to 19 points, 10 kg from 20 to 29
points, etc.
This weight handicap is applied only when a driver
has collected a number of Championship points equal
to 10 or a multiple of 10.
d) Handicap weights a), b) and c) will be cumulative.
However, the maximum handicap weight, when the
above three handicaps are applied, shall not exceed
60 kg.
80. The weight handicap specified will be applied
at the following Event. This includes scrutineering,
free practice, qualifying practice, the warm-up and the
races. Should an Event be cancelled, the weight
handicaps foreseen for that Event will be carried over
to the next Event.
Any driver missing an Event will carry his own
handicap weight over to his next Event.
81. Addition or subtraction of a weight handicap is
applied to the minimum weight of the cars as defined
in Article 263-5 of Appendix J. The ballast must be
attached and positioned in accordance with the
provisions of that same Article.
82. Weight handicaps always relate to the drivers,
and not to the cars.
BALANCE OF PERFORMANCE
83. In order to maximise equality of performance,
the Bureau reserves the right to adjust the minimum
weight of the car (Articles 263 and 263D of the
Technical Regulations) for each competitor at any
time during the Championship.
