From writer/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski, the creators of the groundbreaking “The Matrix” trilogy, and producer Joel Silver comes the live-action, high-octane family adventure “Speed Racer.”
Hurtling down the track, careening around, over and through the competition, Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is a natural behind the wheel. Born to race cars, Speed is aggressive, instinctive and, most of all, fearless. His only real competition is the memory of the brother he idolized—the legendary Rex Racer—whose death in a race has left behind a legacy that Speed is driven to fulfill.
Speed is loyal to the family racing business, led by his father, Pops Racer (John Goodman), the designer of Speed’s thundering Mach 5. When Speed turns down a lucrative and tempting offer from Royalton Industries, he not only infuriates the company’s maniacal owner (Roger Allam) but uncovers a terrible secret—some of the biggest races are being fixed by a handful of ruthless moguls who manipulate the top drivers to boost profits. If Speed won’t drive for Royalton, Royalton will see to it that the Mach 5 never crosses another finish line.
The only way for Speed to save his family’s business and the sport he loves is to beat Royalton at his own game. With the support of his family and his loyal girlfriend, Trixie (Christina Ricci), Speed teams with his one-time rival—the mysterious Racer X (Matthew Fox)—to win the race that had taken his brother’s life: the death-defying, cross-country rally known as The Crucible.
Slated for release on May 9, 2008, “Speed Racer” marks the Wachowski brothers’ first writing/directing collaboration since “The Matrix” movies. Joel Silver, who previously worked with the Wachowskis on “The Matrix” movies and “V For Vendetta,” is producing the film under his Silver Pictures banner.
The film stars Emile Hirsch (“Alpha Dog”) as Speed, Christina Ricci (“Black Snake Moan”) as Trixie, Matthew Fox (TV’s “Lost”) as Racer X, and Oscar winner Susan Sarandon (“Dead Man Walking”) and John Goodman (“Evan Almighty”) as Mom and Pops Racer. Rounding out the main cast are Australian actor Kick Gurry (“Spartan”) as Sparky; Paulie Litt (TV’s “Hope & Faith”) as Spritle; Roger Allam (“The Queen,” “V For Vendetta”) as Royalton; and Asian music star Ji Hoon Jung (popularly known as Rain), making his major feature film debut as a rival driver.
Based on the classic series created by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida, the live-action “Speed Racer” will showcase the kind of revolutionary visual effects and cutting-edge storytelling that have become the benchmarks of the Wachowski brothers’ films.

Cambio de rol. La piloto venezolana Milka Duno, la primera latina en correr las 500 millas de Indianápolis, dijo que actuará “femenina, sexy, pero excéntrica” con el personaje de “Gerabox” en la película Speed Racer (Meteoro).
La automovilista explicó el viernes a la emisora venezolana Unión Radio que encarnará a una piloto rusa en la versión cinematográfica de la serie animada, que dirigirán los hermanos Larry y Andy Wachowski, creadores de Matrix .
“Voy a hacer el rol de una piloto rusa, que es muy agresiva y excéntrica. 'Gearbox' es su seudónimo y tiene una forma excéntrica de vestir. Yo misma me sorprendí del traje que tenía que llevar para correr. Es parte de la película”, dijo Milka.
La venezolana aseguró que aprovechará la oportunidad que le dio la productora estadounidense Warner Bros Pictures de participar en el filme pero advirtió: “No es que vaya a cambiar mi carrera de piloto. Es algo que me llegó, es una oportunidad y la voy a aprovechar. Uno piensa cuántos pilotos hay en el mundo y me invitaron a mí, estoy muy agradecida”.
Asimismo, dijo sentirse afortunada de participar en la que considera “una gran producción”debido a que no estaba buscando esa oportunidad. “Esto pasó como cuando comencé a correr autos. Yo jamás pensé en ser piloto; era ingeniera, había hecho unos posgrados, pero me llegó el momento de ser piloto de autos. Esta película llegó así, sin estarlo buscando”, destacó Duno.
La piloto del auto número 23 Citgo Dallara Honda consideró que esa película va a ser un rotundo éxito “porque desde siempre ha habido muchos 'meteoros' en el mundo y porque está en manos de los hermanos Wachowski”.

(August 9, 2007) - Milka Duno, the first Latina to race in the Indianapolis 500, will travel this week to Berlin where filming is underway for the 2008 live-action movie Speed Racer. The driver of the #23 CITGO Honda Dallara IndyCar has been set to play the role of Gearbox in the film, which is based on the classic anime series of the 1960s.
"I am so excited about the opportunity to appear in such a large movie," said Duno. "Luckily I am only taking part in some of the races this year and when Warner Bros. invited me to take part, I asked my sponsor CITGO for their approval to change my race schedule, which they have kindly granted. I am also grateful to the IndyCar Series for allowing us to withdraw from the Kentucky event at the last minute"
Due to the importance of such exposure in a large movie, the team and sponsor CITGO Petroleum Corporation came to the joint conclusion that the opportunity was worth the consequences of not appearing at Kentucky Indy 300 on Saturday, August 11. The shoot schedule puts Duno back in the United States the following week. To make up for lost race track time, additional testing is being scheduled in preparation for her remaining 2007 IndyCar race schedule.
IndyCar Series VP of Marketing, Mike Ringham, said, "It is very exciting to have one of our drivers participate in such a high-profile movie. The timing of the movie’s release next year, in May 2008, will hopefully get even more people excited about racing just in time for the world's biggest race, the Indianapolis 500, and we wish her well."
