With the New York Rangers finalizing their coaching staff, former Blueshirt Martin St. Louis has removed himself from consideration, for now.
The New York Rangers are finalizing their full coaching staff under new head man David Quinn and should be making an announcement soon.
One person’s name that won’t be announced as a member of the staff will be Martin St. Louis, and that is how he would like it, for now.
Speaking on “Rangers Night Live” with John Giannone Monday night, St. Louis put to rest any speculation that he might be coming to New York as an assistant coach.
“It’s something I see myself trying and liking Marc Staal Jersey, timing is everything. Right now I’m focusing on my kids and this is time you can’t get back and it’s been a blast. I’m gonna keep doing that for now and take it a year at a time.”
St. Louis played 93 games for the Rangers, recording 22 goals with 60 points. In the year he was traded to New York, he and the team enjoyed an incredible run to the Stanley Cup Final where they eventually lost to the Los Angeles Kings. St. Louis scored eight goals in the playoffs that season which included an overtime winner against the Montreal Canadiens.
Since his retirement following the 2015 season, St. Louis has been enjoying fatherhood and coaching hockey games.
On June 28, 2018 https://www.rangersnyfans.com/tony-dean ... -c-10.html, it was announced that St. Louis will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame along with Gary Bettman, Martin Brodeur, Jayna Hefford, Willie O’Ree and Alexander Yakushev.
