Fernando Alonso's victory in Sunday's Australian Grand Prix could take Flavio Briatore one step closer to retirement, as the team boss has hinted that he may quit F1 at the end of the year if Renault retain the World titles.

Although it is more common for someone to quit their job when things aren't going well. the flamboyant Italian seems to feel it would be better to quit while on top.

Asked by the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, if he will be renewing his Renault contract when it expires at the end of the season, Briatore said: "If I would win the title again with Renault, I would have little more to ask from Formula One."

He added: "I do not depend psychologically on F1. when I take my Renault uniform off, I put on a pair of jeans and I am someone else.

"I have some other things to do."

As for what those "things" could be, Briatore says owning a football club could be part of his future.
