Uno de los mejores circuitos del campeonato en donde el tema de los neumaticos va a ser clave para la carrera ya que si uno pifea una vuelta tiene que esperarse 7 largos kilometros para cambiarlos.

Es oficial, Bruno Senna llega este fin de semana a reemplazar a Nick Heidfeld en el equipo Renault, y se espera que este tras el volante del R31 hasta el final de la temporada.

"Renault have confirmed that Bruno Senna will replace Nick Heidfeld for the Belgian Grand Prix. Though they are yet to confirm whether he will be a firm feature for the remainder of the season.

The news was reported on Monday that the Brazilian would make his debut for Renault after team principal Eric Boullier, and team co-owner Gerard Lopez, admitted they were disappointed with the German's performances."

"Friday is all but guaranteed to suffer from rain, but the unique nature of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, which stretches for 7km into the Ardenne forest, means it can be raining at one end, whilst the other is bone-dry.

Saturday's conditions look slightly better with lighter rain expected, mainly toward the latter stages of the session.

Sunday will see the best weather, with little to no rain forecast for the entire event. However, that will offer the teams very little in the way of confidence as weather is notably hard to predict in this region."

"The FIA’s Charlie Whiting has confirmed that DRS will not be allowed at Eau Rouge this weekend to avoid the risk that a driver thinks he has returned his wing to its normal position when he might not have.

The FIA had a similar view prior to Monaco, where the tunnel was an issue.

Felipe Massa es uno que apoya la prohibicion del DRS en Eau Rouge apuntando a que es la decision correcta...

"I have been following the discussion regarding the use of DRS at the Eau Rouge corner and I think banning its use there for the whole weekend is the right decision," he wrote in his diary.

Por cierto, hablando del cambio en Renault entre Senna y Heidfeld, el aleman parece que ya se prepara para tomar acciones legales contra el equipo Renault segun algunos reportes, actualmente Nick Heidfeld se encuentra octavo en el campeonato de pilotos...

Norbert Haug le abre las puertas a Michael Schumacher en el DTM con Mercedes, por si en el futuro decide correr en la serie alemana como ya lo hizo su hermano Ralph...

Belgian Grand Prix facts and figures



– Spa is longest circuit on the calendar by some margin – a lap is 7.004km; the next longest is Silverstone at 5.891km. Over 70% of the track is taken at full throttle, which equates to 4.903km – longer than the entire Circuit de Catalunya!

– Over one lap the engine will have a total wide open throttle time of 43secs. There are two principle ‘straights’ – the first from Turn One, the La Source hairpin, through Eau Rouge and up to Les Combes on the Kemmel Straight. The RS27 engine will be at maximum revs (18,000rpm) for 23secs on this section. The second long straight is from Stavelot to the Bus Stop chicane where the RS27 engine will be at max revs for 20secs

– The track goes downhill from La Source before climbing 80m through Eau Rouge to Les Combes. This is particularly tough for the RS27 engine as there are a lot of lateral G-forces, approx +3g to -4g and then 5g to -3g going over the crest of the hill. The pressure can affect the flow of lubricants through the hydraulic and lubricant systems

– The La Source hairpin is the slowest part of the track where drivers drop to just 70kph and 8,700rpm. However the long straight afterwards requires the engine to pick up very quickly so Renault Sport F1 engineers create maps that enable the drivers to have smooth, but rapid, acceleration on the long straight

– The length of the circuit and its geographical location in the forest-clad hills means there are often microclimates over the course of a lap; it could be raining in one location but dry in another. Engine maps are therefore created to be a compromise to give as much flexibility as possible. Ironically the ban on changing engine maps between qualifying and the race is likely to have very little impact here as conditions can change so quickly

The engineers’ view: Head of Renault Sport F1 track operations Rémi Taffin gives his thoughts on Spa

Spa-Francorchamps is a circuit that gives us the ‘most’ of everything. It’s the longest, the most changeable weather conditions, but from an engineer’s perspective it’s the most enjoyable as it’s so much of a challenge. The driver will encounter every sort of corner possible so we, as engineers, have to consider how to get the RS27 to perform over all levels of torque and revs. We need the engine to deliver a smooth power curve through the flowing corners like Blanchimont and Eau Rouge but also to be responsive out of the slower hairpins and chicanes. There are also two notable braking zones: the first corner hairpin, made more difficult by being downhill, and then the Bus Stop where the car brakes from 310kph to just 75kph – putting the engine internals under huge pressure. The long straights and long wide open throttle times also demand a good 7th gear ratio, essential for a good lap time, so you can see we need to be completely on top of every area of performance.

Getting the mapping right, while also allowing enough flexibility to deal with the changeable weather, means it’s one of the circuits we spend the most time on in the dyno; approx 4.5 hours and a further five hours calibration. In fact we use Spa as a control circuit to test an engine’s reliability as it puts so much strain on the internal parts. With such huge demands exerted, we’ll be using fresh engines for this race with each of our partners to give them as much power as possible.

No piensa en 'hacer números' hasta final de temporada

Fernando Alonso ya ha aterrizado en Bélgica tras el parón veraniego, y llega a Spa-Francorchamps decidido a mantener la buena racha que la Scuderia Ferrari trae desde el pasado GP de Europa. El piloto español confirma que llevarán novedades en el monoplaza, que espera les ayuden a mejorar algo más su rendimiento en una pista tan exigente como Spa.

Fernando Alonso ya ha vuelto a la rutina de las carreras. El español ya está en Bélgica para disputar la undécima cita del Campeonato 2011. Llega mentalizado para obtener los mejores resultados posibles, pero admite una vez más que de cara al Mundial las cosas se complican: "He llegado a Bélgica esta tarde, ya que tenía que asistir a un acto para mi patrocinador personal Silestone, y esta tarde iré a Spa. No puedo esperar a volver a la pista para seguir con esta racha de buenos resultados que se remonta a Valencia. Llevaremos algunas partes nuevas en el 150º Italia que esperemos que nos permita mejorar un poco más nuestro rendimiento. Soy muy consciente de que la situación en el Campeonato es la que es, pero eso no significa que hayamos tirado la toalla. Siempre nos preparamos para ganar cada carrera y, como vengo diciendo durante un tiempo, haremos las cuentas al final. Durante estas pasadas semanas he hablado varias veces con Stefano (Domenicali) y puedo decir que está muy motivado: me gusta este espíritu ya que también es el mío. Será importante traer a casa buenos resultados, ya que el equipo se ha esforzado mucho para recuperarse de un difícil comienzo (de temporada): los chicos (del equipo) y la afición lo merecen", declara el asturiano a través de su blog en la web de Ferrari.

El bicampeón también ha aprovechado para contar cómo han transcurrido sus vacaciones, en las que ha aprovechado para dedicarse al ciclismo, uno de sus deportes favoritos: "Acabadas las vacaciones, es hora de volver a la pista. Esta pausa de dos semanas ha sido muy útil para mí, ya que he podido recargar las pilas tras un mes de julio muy intenso. Ha estado bien pasar algo de tiempo en casa con la familia y los amigos. No he hecho nada especial, aunque hice frente a un pequeño recorrido por Asturias en bici: se ha convertido en una tradición entre mi grupo de amigos, y este año se nos han unido algunos chicos del equipo, incluido nuestro director deportivo, Massimo Rivola. Fue muy divertido, además de útil para hacer algo de entrenamiento de cara a la parte final de la temporada. Sabéis lo mucho que me gusta el ciclismo, por lo que fue genial poder compartirlo con los amigos. Además, me gustó descubrir gente en Ferrari con la que comparto esta afición. ¿Quién ganó? Yo, ¡pero sólo porque estoy más en forma!".

Alonso no se ha olvidado de que éste va a ser un fin de semana especial, sobre todo para Michael Schumacher por sus veinte años en la Fórmula 1: "Mañana empieza el que va a ser un fin de semana muy especial para un piloto que ha formado parte de la historia de la Fórmula 1 y de Ferrari en particular: Michael Schumacher. No me corresponde a mí decir que es el más grande de todos los tiempos, son los números los que hablan: 7 títulos mundiales y 91 victorias son records increíbles. Tengo a Michael en muy alta estima y me siento honrado de haber corrido junto a él. Cuando llegué a Maranello, me di cuenta aún más de lo fuertes que son los lazos que le unen a Ferrari y por eso me complació especialmente lo que Stefano dijo en el Wrooom veraniego, justo antes de la pausa veraniega. No sé si en 2021 estaré aún en la Fórmula 1, es difícil de decir y es una confirmación más de lo extraordinaria que ha sido la carrera de Michael. Por mi parte, quiero aprovechar esta oportunidad para enviarle mis mejores deseos por este increíble hito: ¡veinte años son un logro increíble!".

Lo único que valía la pena de esta juetuta espera de un mes es que al final estaba Spa... el mejor de los circuitos de la F1 y punto. Ya la espera se me hacía insoportable, casi de llorar del desconsuelo.

En 1991 Ayrton Senna lograba la Pole Position en Spa con un tiempo de 1'47.811 (a +1.010 de Alain Prost en la segunda posicion con Ferrari), aqui el video sin comentarios, solamente el sonido del McLaren Honda en la vuelta de la Pole durante la 2da Sesion Clasificatoria.

Bueno chiquillos... Práctica 1 pasada por agua, el abuelito Shumacher celebrando sus 20 años en la F1 logró meter el mejor tiempo antes de que se viniera la doña de los frescos. Por cierto anda en modo festejo con un diseño de casco especial para este finde.

Los cromos de la sesión fueron aportados por Bruno Senna que se fue con su Renault en la curva 9, yendo a dar contra las barreras. Unos cuantos minutos después Paul di Resta hizo lo suyo en la misma curva, esta vez ocasionando bandera roja por unos cuantos minutos. Fuera de eso nada más que reportar, sólo que para variar a ratos era baldazo y a ratos salía el sol. Qué cosa más linda que es Spa.
