That indeed did happen, during the Group B days if i am not mistaken.
Specators would try to get as close to the cars as possible, and I think they believed touching a moving rally car was a great achievement. Seen the air intakes in the groupb days were in the back windows, meant the edges were rather sharp when moving at a high speed.. so yes, often the service crew found severed fingers in the intakes from poor stupid spectators.
