HSV running in a good rhythm! Amazing lap time from SC430!? Manufacturers undertake joint testing at Suzuka.

On January 19th, manufacturers competing in the SUPER GT began joint testing at Suzuka Circuit. The testing continues until the 21st.

5 teams fielding brand new Honda HSV-010 GT, namely ARTA, REAL RACING, DOME RACING, NAKAJIMA RACING, and TEAM KUNIMITSU, showed up at Suzuka with all drivers of respective teams in accordance with the announcement made yesterday. For last year's champion manufacturer LEXUS, Juichi Wakisaka and Andre Lotterer drove their TOM'S SC430 with Car no. 1, which only the champion is allowed to wear, along with TEAM LeMans, TEAM KRAFT, TEAM CERUMO, and TEAM SARD. For Nissan, NISMO brought in No. 23 and No.3 GT-R's plus 2 test cars (unconformed to the SUPER GT regulation). Satoshi Motoyama and Benoit Treluyer took the wheel. In addition, JIMGAINER from GT300 class ran No. 11 car and another Ferrari F430 (unhomologated to the SUPER GT regulation).

With the Honda HSV-010 GT being in the center of attention, the morning session started at 10 AM. Clear sky with 12 degrees temperature, it was rather warm in a suntrap. As expected, DOME whips out 1 min 55.172 sec at just 20 minutes into the morning session. Soon later, NISMO's No.3 car (Benoit Treluyer) cuts down the time of HSV-010 GT to 1 min 54.787 sec, which ended up to be the fastest time in the morning. No official times from SC430's and Ferrari because LEXUS teams and JIMGAINER didn't use circuit's timing system. Towards the end of the 2-hour morning session, DOME's HSV-010 GT came to a halt on the side of track, and, at turn 2, No. 23 GT-R went off the track. No major damage to both cars, it seemed.

Afternoon session began at 14 o'clock. Weather continued to be nice. Most of the participating cars stayed out longer on the track in the afternoon session, consequently accumulated the number of laps. Some teams may have executed a long-run testing program. DOME's HSV-010 GT recorded 1 min 54.723 sec, which became the fastest time of the day. At the end, DOME, NISMO's No. 23 car, and REAL RACING's HSV were the only cars to put their lap time in the 54 seconds mark.

Although SC430's did not use circuit's timing system, tire manufacturer's measuring device showed that TOM'S recorded an amazing time of 1 minute and mid-52 seconds mark in the afternoon. Overall, LEXUS fleet had a good day throughout with TOM'S also setting time in low-53 seconds mark in the morning along with other SC430's marking 53 – 54 seconds.
