Los pilotos Stefan Mucke y Darren Turner del equipo Young Driver AMR fueron los mas rapidos en la 1era Sesion Oficial de Practicas en Abu Dhabi con su Aston Martin DB9 #8, el mejor tiempo del equipo fue de 1:53.216, unos 0.023 segundos mejor que el Lamborghini Murcielago de Dominik Schwager y Nicky Pastorelli. En la tercer posicion se coloco el Corvette Z06 de Selleslagh Racing o Exim Bank Team China con un tiempo de 1:53.326, +0.110 de diferencia con respecto al Aston Martin. Importante destacar que el Top13 terminó separado por menos de 1 segundo de diferencia.

Los colores del Corvette de Selleslagh Racing - Exim Bank Team China

El mejor tiempo de la sesion de la segunda sesion de praticas o sesion de pre-clasificacion fue para los pilotos del nuevo equipo satelite de Nissan, JR Motorsport con Peter Dumbreck y Richard Westbrook quienes de paso han establecido el mejor crono en lo que va de la semana con 1:52.777, a +0.038 quedo nuevamente el Lamborghini de Muennich Motorsport con Nicky Pastorelli y Dominik Schwager los cuales se han mostrado muy consistentes. A pesar de tener ciertos problemas tecnicos con los Ford GT el equipo Marc VDS se coloca tercero con Maxime Martin y Frederic Makowiecki a +0.069 del puntero. Ahora es el Top10 los que se mantienen a menos de 1 segundo de diferencia.

Pole Position para el equipo All-Inkl.com con Nikky Pastorelli y Dominik Schwager, ojo porque este equipo ha venido muy bien, muy consistentes en las 2 practicas anteriores y ahora han logrado la Pole para lo que sera mañana la carrera clasificatoria. Lastima que al otro Lamborghini del equipo no le fuera tan bien al quedarse en la Q2 por unos problemas en su caja de cambios, partiran mañana desde la posicion 13.

El tiempo de la Pole fue de 1.51.668, pronto les adjunto los resultados completos de la clasificacion.

Lamborghini Pole for Schwager and Pastorelli

Nicky Pastorelli and Dominik Schwager scored a maiden pole position for the All-Inkl.com Muennich Motorsport team when Pastoreli set the fastest time of the weekend so far in the nr37 Lamborghini Murcielago 670 R-SV. The five brands competing in the 2011 Championship were all represented in the top 6, with the Stefan Mucke and Darren Turner claiming a front row position in the Young Driver Aston Martin alongside the Lamborghini. Row two is headed by the Marc VDS Ford GT of Maxime Martin and Frederic Makowiecki with the second Young Driver Aston of Tomas Enge and Alex Muller in 4th. The Team Exim Team China Corvette of Mike Hezemans and Nicky Catsburg was 5th with the JR Motorsport Nissan GT-R of Peter Dumbreck and Richard Westbrook alongside meaning all five brands are represented on the first three rows and covered by 0.4 seconds.

Q1 was topped by the Aston Martin DB9 of Stefan Mucke, the German holding off the challenge of David Brabham in the nr21 Sumo Power Nissan GT-R, with Pastorelli posting the 3rd fastest time. In Q2 Dominik Schwager was fastest, edging out the nr7 Young Driver Aston of Tomas Enge, with Turner in 3rd. The nr38 All Inkl Lamborghini had gearbox problems that forced Marc Basseng into retirement and Jamie Campbell-Walter also failed to qualifying for Q3, the only NIssan that failed to make the last eight.

The first Qualifying Race of 2011 will start at 13:15 (local) - 09:15 (UK) and 10:15 (CET) - and all the action can be seen on GT1world.com with live streaming of the race.

Lamentablemente Vanina Ickx ya no correra esta fecha en Abu Dhabi con el equipo Belgian Racing ya que no se pudo ajustar bien dentro del Ford GT de una manera que fuera segura tanto para ella como para Antoine Leclerc. Al parecer la posicion de la butaca quedaba muy abajo o bien su casco quedaba muy cerca del roll bar, esto compromete la seguridad de los pilotos asi que parece ser la mejor decision por ahora segun afirma el manager del equipo Laurence Hanssen. Fabien Giroix es quien estará junto a Leclerc este fin de semana.

El equipo DKR ha confirmado en su segundo Corvette a los pilotos Michael Rossi y Jaime Camara, muchos conocen a este ultimo piloto por haber participado en 2008 en la Serie Indycar con el equipo Conquest Racing, ambos se incorporaran al equipo mas adelante cuando el segundo auto este disponible.

Anteriormente mencione que los pilotos Jaime Camara y Michael Rossi estarian a la espera del otro Corvette y no correrian esta fecha, incluso no aparecen sus nombres en el Spotter Guide que publique en un post anterior, pero por lo que veo ellos estan este fin de semana con el Corvette de DKR y mas bien los ausentes son sus compañeros Jean-Claude Police y Laurent Cazenave que de hecho en un inicio aparecian como los unicos dos pilotos del equipo en la pagina oficial de FIA GT1, parece ser un cambio de ultimo hora del equipo.

“The car was really good, and we managed to have a good lap in Q3 which brought us to this nice result! We hope to do it again tomorrow when it really counts, we will see tomorrow, but I’m really happy not only for myself but also for the team. They did so much hard work over the last year, when they started from zero, and if you look at the results from last year the first race we were on the last row. The first row this year shows what a great job they did.

“I’m really happy, I mean Nicky already said basically everything: the team had so much work over the winter to get the cars ready, and last year we were nowhere, the car was undriveable and we didn’t even finish. If someone had asked me who I want to drive with I would have said Nicky, it’s great to have a partner at the same level, but what’s really important is a good race result and I’m looking forward to it!”

Lamborghini Pole for Schwager and Pastorelli but Stewards Issue Penalty for Flag Infringement

Nicky Pastorelli and Dominik Schwager scored a maiden pole position for the All-Inkl.com Muennich Motorsport team when Pastoreli set the fastest time of the weekend so far in the nr37 Lamborghini Murcielago 670 R-SV. However a penalty of five grid places was imposed by the FIA Stewards after qualifying for ignoring a black and orange flag during Q1. Dominik Schwager will start in P6 and Darren Turner will line up at the head of the field in the Young Driver Aston Martin DB9.

The five brands competing in the 2011 Championship were all represented in the top 6, with the Stefan Mucke and Darren Turner claiming a front row position in the Young Driver Aston Martin alongside the Lamborghini. Row two is headed by the Marc VDS Ford GT of Maxime Martin and Frederic Makowiecki with the second Young Driver Aston of Tomas Enge and Alex Muller in 4th. UPDATE: After qualifying had finished the FIA Stewards issued two decisions. In Q1 the nr37 Lamborghini was started on an external battery, which isn't allowed under the regulations and the All-Inkl.com Muennich Motorsport team received a formal reprimand (decision 11). During Q1 a Black and Orange flag was displayed to Nicky Pastorelli, which meant he had to return to the pits, switch off the engine and then start the car under its own power. The nr37 Lamborghini ignored the Black and Orange flag and for this Dominik Schwager will not start the Qualifying race in pole position but in P6, a drop of five grid places (decision 12). Pastorelli's time in Q3 wasn't cancelled so the pole position time still stands.

Marc VDS Takes First Blood of 2011

Maxime Martin and Fred Makowieki took the honours in the first encounter of 2011 by winning the Qualifying Race at Yas Marina. A clash with the nr7 Aston Martin of Tomas Enge damaged the door of the Ford GT at the start of the race but failed to stop Martin from taking the chequered flag to record his and his team's first GT1 World win. It was all smiles in the Nissan camp as JR Motorsports had both their cars in the top 3 finishers, with Richard Westbrook and Peter Dumbreck pushing the Ford all the way to the chequered flag, while team mates Michael Krumm and Lucas Luhr held on to take third.

The nr8 Aston Martin of Darren Turner led for the first half of the race but a slow pitstop put Stefan Mucke back behind the Ford and a missing locking pin in the front left wheel allowed the wheel to come adrift and forced the German into retirement. The incident at Turn 1 at the start between Tomas Enge and Fred Makowiecki span the Aston around, which was collected by the nr37 All-Inkl.com Muennich Motorsport Lamborghini of Thomas Schwager and then by the nr47 DKR Corvette of Jaime Camara, eliminating all three cars from the race.

Despite misty condition caused by a sand storm, the first race of the season was action packed from start to finish and the battle for the lead between the Ford GT and the Nissan GT-R provided some nailbiting entertainment for the teams and spectators alike.

Maxime Martin will now take his place on Pole Position for the first Champinship RAce of 2011 thsi evening, which begins at 19:45 local time (14:45 UK and 15:45 CET).

Corvette si podrá estar presente en el Campeonato 2011

Segun Stephan Ratel, la gente de Selleslagh Racing y DKR Engineering que el año pasado se unieron para conformar el equipo Mad-Croc Racing, se encargaran de poner en pista un par de Corvette's C6.R cada uno esta temporada. Aun asi parece que DKR no ha conseguido su segundo Corvette por lo que podria correr la primera fecha del campeonato en Abu Dhabi con solo un auto el proximo 26 de marzo.

Tengo entendido que el equipo Selleslagh Racing va a utilizar uno de los chasis que tienen del año pasado (del Mad-Croc Racing) y van a alquilar uno de los Corvettes utilizados la temporada pasada por el equipo Phoenix a sus nuevos dueños ya que ambos Corvettes fueron vendidos a unos equipos privados, entre ellos R Racing Zero con el piloto Dave Basu y el otro es Mad Team & Daring con el piloto Rick Abresch (de hecho Rick este 2010 corrio un Corvette Z06 GT3) para el campeonato holandes Dutch Supercar Challenge y Selleslagh les brindara sus servicios a ambos autos. Mientras que DKR tambien tiene el otro chasis del año pasado y parece que puede haber un negocio con la gente de Pratt & Miller con un chasis que tienen totalmente nuevo pero todavia no hay nada concreto.

El equipo britanico Bamboo Engineering se aparto de sus planes por correr con la marca americana la semana pasada.

El equipo Hexis AMR da la sorpresa en la carrera final este sabado con los pilotos Clivio Piccione y Stef Dusseldorp llevandose la victoria luego de una excelente parada en pits les permitio saltar de la quinta a la primera posicion, la cual lograron mantener apesar de la presion impuesta por Richard Westbrook en la segunda mitad de la carrera, de hecho al final de la carrera ambos tenian un gap de menos de 1 segundo. El 3er puesto fue para la dupla Basseng y Winkelhock en el Lamborghini de All-Inkl.com. Race Win for Aston Martin After Action Packed Race

Clivio Piccione and Stef Dusseldorp scored a maiden victory in the Championship Race at Yas Marina after the Hexis AMR team produced a lightening pitstop that leapfrogged the nr3 Aston Martin DB9 from 5th into the lead. Dusseldorp had to soak up immense pressure from former FIA GT2 Champion Richard Westbrook for most of the second half of the race but the 21-year-old former single seat driver didn't put a wheel wrong in his first ever GT race. At the chequered flag the nr22 JR Motorsport Nissan GT-R was less than a second behind to record their second top 3 finish of the weekend. After a rollercoaster weekend the nr All-Inkl.com Muennnich Motorsport Lamborghini Murcielago of Marc Basseng and Marcus Winklehock finished in 3rd place to record the team's first ever podium finish in the FIA GT1 World Championship.

The race began with the nr41 Marc VDS Racing Team Ford GT of Maxime Martin on pole position, with Peter Dumbreck in the JR Motorsport Nissan alongside on the front row. At the start the Sumo Power Nissan of Enrique Bernoldi shot through from the second row to take the lead at the first corner, with Dumbreck getting into T1 before Martin. Further back Stefan Mucke in the nr8 Young Driver AMR Aston Martin was storming through the field from 15th, ending the opening lap in 8th place.

At the front Dumbreck was pressurising the leading Nissan of Bernoldi, while Martin was close behind the second placed JR Motorsport Nissan. For lap after lap the three cars circulated in formation, each trying to push the other into a mistake. Their battle allowed Winklehock and Piccione to close up to make it a five way battle for the lead as the pitstops approached. On lap 13 Martin finally got past Dumbreck's Nissan at T18 for second place just as the pit wndow opened.

Bernoldi, Martin, Piccione and Mucke all pitted together. The Sumo Power pitcrew went to work and got their car, with Ricardo Zonta now at the wheel, turned round in quick time. However the Marc VDS crew were even quicker and as the Nissan approached the Ford pit Makowiecki dived out in front but the two cars collided. They rubbed wheels for several metres before the Ford went through the tunnel ahead of the Nissan but Zonta's Nissan was damaged and had to return to the pits for a new tyre. Makowiecki was given a drive through penalty for the incident.

Meanwhile the Hexis pit crew had turned the nr3 car round and when the pitstops finished Stef Dusseldorp found himself leading the race, six seconds ahead of Richard Westbrook in the JR Motorsport Nissan. Westbrook then closed the gap and spent the next 20-minutes trying to pass the flying Dutchman in vain. At the chequered flag it was Dusseldorf and the rest of the Hexis team who celebrated a unexpected but very welcome victory.

Clivio Piccione and Stef Dusseldorf leave the Middle East with a two point advantage in the Championship, while Hexis AMR lead JR Motorsports by 11 points in the Team title race. Round 2 of the FIA GT1 World Championship will take place in Belgium at Zolder on Sunday 10 April.
