Acerca la carrera

La Petit Le Mans es una carrera de resistencia que se disputa en el autódromo de Road Atlanta, Estados Unidos desde el año 1998. La carrera se celebra en setiembre u octubre, y tiene un doble límite de duración: 1000 millas ó 10 horas. Todas carreras hasta la edición 2008 finalizaron por límite de distancia.

La edición de 1998 de la Petit Le Mans fue un experimento del empresario Don Panoz con la idea crear una categoría de sport prototipos gran turismos en América del Norte que siguiera las mismas reglas que las 24 horas de Le Mans. En 1999, creó la American Le Mans Series en sustitución del Campeonato IMSA GT. Junto con las 12 horas de Sebring, Petit Le Mans ha sido una de las carreras especiales de esa categoría desde su estreno en 1999. Los ganadores de la carrera en cada clase reciben una invitación a las 24 horas de Le Mans del año siguiente.

Como datos Curioso Audi nunca ha perdido en Petit Le mans inclusive en la edición 2008 que estuvieron con una vuelta abajo con respecto a Peugeot.

ALMS: Gran plantel de inscritos para Petit Le Mans

El IMSA anunció este Viernes por la tarde la lista provisional de inscritos para la penúltima cita del campeonato American Le Mans Series, la ya tradicional de Petit Le Mans en Road Atlanta. Hasta treinta y un coches han formalizado ya su inscripción para la carrera de Braselton, aunque todavía hay posibilidades de que nuevos equipos se unan a la parrilla.

Entre los LMP1 ni más ni menos que un fantástico número de doce vehículos serán de la partida, encabezados por los Peugeot 908 HDi de Nic Minassian / Pedro Lamy y Stephane Sarrazin / Franck Montagny, y los Audi R15 TDI de Lucas Luhr / Marco Werner y Rinaldo Capello / Allan McNish. Además estarán los dos Acura ARX-02a de Highcroft Racing, con el refuerzo de Dario Franchitti para David Brabham y Scott Sharp, y el de Gil de Ferran y Simon Pagenaud. Como ya estaba previsto habrá un Oreca 01-AIM para Nicolas Lapierre y Olivier Panis, el Lola B09/60 Judd de Drayson Racing para Robert Bell, Paul Drayson y Jonny Cocker, más el Radical SR9-AER de ECO Racing que ya había adelantado SportMotores.es para Hideki Noda y José Manuel Balbiani.

En LMP2 a los habituales Acura ARX-01b de Fernandez Racing y los dos Lola B09/86 de Dyson Racing, se suman el Porsche RS Spyder de Team Cytosport con el refuerzo de Sascha Massen, y el Radical SR9 AER de van der Steur Racing.

La parrilla de GT2 será la más numerosa, con calidad, cantidad y también la no menos importante variedad. Hay que destacar a los dos Chevrolet Corvette C6.R, que ya han ganado, de Corvette Racing y con la presencia de nuestro Antonio García. El madrileño repetirá presencia con Jan Magnussen y Johnny O´Connell, con los que ya ha ganado en Sebring y Le Mans, mientras Marcel Fässler se une a Olivier Beretta y Oliver Gavin. Además en las filas de Porsche, Flying Lizard Motorsports se refuerza con Marc Lieb, en el coche de Jörg Bergmeister y Pat Long, y Ferrari hace lo propio con Mika Salo en el coche de Risi Competizione para Jaime Melo y Pierre Kaffer. Team Falken será de la partida con su Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, mientras debuta el nuevo Jaguar XKR de Rocketsports Racing de Paul Gentilozzi. El Panoz Esperante Ford de Team PTG, el Ford GT de Robertson Racing, el Chevrolet Corvette C6.R de LG Motorsports y el Dodge Viper Coupe de Primetime Race Group pondrán la nota diferencial.

ALMS: Drayson Racing con un Lola-Judd en Petit Le Mans

La parrilla de Petit Le Mans, la segunda prueba en importancia del campeonato American Le Mans Series tras las 12 horas de Sebring, continúa incrementándose con el paso de los días.

Drayson Racing, equipo del ministro británico Paul Drayson, ha adquirido un chasis Lola B09/60, de última generación, al que han acoplado un motor Judd GV5 V10 y que harán debutar de manera oficial en Petit Le Mans, la carreras de 10 horas en Road Atlanta que se disputa la semana del 22 al 26 de Septiembre, dentro de LMP1.

Los pilotos serán el propio Drayson, como es natural, más el bravo y rápido Jonny Cocker, con el refuerzo en Petit Le Mans de Robert Bell, otro piloto de las islas británicas y que ya demostrado su fantástico nivel al volante de los Ferrari 430 GT2 de CR Scuderia, JMW Motorsport o Virgo Motorsport y que también conoce la estructura del equipo.

La noticia, excelente a todas luces si la sumamos a la presencia en la carrera de Peugeot, Acura u Oreca, supondrá además la primera vez que uno de estos chasis Lola montará un motor Judd, sin lugar a dudas el motor-cliente por antonomasia.

ALMS: Acura se refuerza con Dixon y Franchitti en Petit Le Mans

Acura ha decidido reforzarse con dos hombres de enjundia de cara a la segunda carrera en importancia del campeonato American Le Mans Series, que se disputan este mes de Septiembre en Road Atlanta.

A la ya confirmada presencia, cuando se anunció algunos días atrás la lista de inscritos, de Dario Franchitti con Highcroft Racing, hay que añadir la confirmación hoy del neozelandés Scott Dixon con de Ferran Motorsports. Así, el escocés Franchitti, actualmente involucrado otra vez en la Indycar, pilotará el Acura ARX-02a LMP1 del equipo de Duncan Dayton junto a David Brabham y Scott Sharp, mientras Dixon hará lo propio con el de Gil de Ferran y Simon Pagenaud.

Ambos pilotos, con vinculación a Acura a través del motorista de la Indycar, repiten por tercera vez con Highcroft Racing y de Ferran Motorsports. No podemos dejar de señalar que en 2008, también en Petit Le Mans, ambos pilotos ya estuvieron con los mismos equipos al volante de los Acura ARX-01b LMP2, misma situación que se repitió en Marzo de este año en las 12 horas de Sebring aunque en Florida ya con los LMP1.

El complicado objetivo de Acura pasa, una vez que prácticamente han corrido sin oposición todo el año a excepción de Sebring, por desafiar la hegemonía de Audi y Peugeot en las carreras de resistencia de mayor enjundia. En Sebring, aunque Dixon logró la pole position, luego en carrera los dos Acura tuvieron que abandonar siendo su mejor representante el LMP2 de Fernandez Racing en cuarta posición.

ALMS: Confirmada la presencia del Jaguar de RSR en Petit Le Mans



Finalmente RocketSports Racing, el equipo fundado y dirigido por Paul Gentilozzi, ha confirmado hoy mismo la presencia de su Jaguar XKR GT2 en la próxima carrera del campeonato American Le Mans Series, Petit Le Mans.

En un escueto comunicado, el equipo de Michigan anunciaba que su nuevo GT2 debutará en el circuito de Road Atlanta del 24 a 26 de Septiembre, confirmando además su presencia también en la última carrera de la temporada en Laguna Seca. Aunque el coche figuraba en la lista de inscritos, anunciada por el IMSA, de Petit Le Mans, existían algunas dudas de su presencia por el secretismo con el que se había llevado el proyecto, así como algunos retrasos con respecto al plan previsto inicialmente.

El objetivo del equipo es desarrollar un coche competitivo para la temporada 2010, estando todavía por definir los pilotos y suministrador de neumáticos del primer Jaguar XKR GT2. El coche, que realizará un pequeño shakedown previo a Petit Le Mans, se dará a conocer oficialmente el 24 de Septiembre, en el propio circuito de Road Atlanta.

ALMS: Priaulx y Müller con BMW en Petit Le Mans

Rahal Letterman Racing, equipo que pone en pista dos BMW E92 M3, contará en Petit Le Mans con los refuerzos de los pilotos oficiales de la marca alemana Andy Priaulx y Jörg Müller.

Los pilotos del Campeonato del Mundo de Turismos, donde se encuentran clasificados cuarto Priaulx y sexto Müller, competirán así con el equipo de Bobby Rahal y apoyando a los pilotos de BMW of North America Motorsport, Tommy Milner, Joey Hand, Dirk Müller y Bill Auberlen.

El fichaje de estos dos pilotos para la carrera de diez horas en Road Atlanta es una opción lógica, dado que ambos pilotos fueron los responsables de buena parte del desarrollo del BMW E92 M3 durante el invierno. Concretamente, después de rodar con él en Europa, Müller y Priaulx rodaron con este modelo en Road Atlanta, en Noviembre del ao pasado.

Ambos pilotos tienen una dilatada experiencia en carreras de resistencia y, así, con BMW ganaron en 2004, Müller, y 2005, Priaulx, las 24 horas de Nürburgring a los mandos de sendos M3 GTR. En 2004 también participaron en Spa con idéntica montura.

Petit Le Mans se disputará los próximos 24 a 26 de Septiembre, donde BMW será una de las principales rivales de Chevrolet, donde estará Antonio García.

ALMS : Romain Dumas en la Petit Le Mans con Oreca!

Team Oreca Matmut AIM anunció la tripulación que participarán en la Petit Le Mans. Para los viajes al extranjero se han elegido tres pilotos franceses de gran experiencia.

Es, de hecho confirmó la Olivier Panis, Nicolas Lapierre y Romain Dumas, gran sorpresa en la elección de Dumas, el gran experto en carreras de América del Norte después de haber competido para el Team Penske Porsche RS Spyder y había triunfado por un bien 2 veces en la ALMS. El trans, dejado vacante por Audi después de haber corrido las 24 Horas de Le Mans con el Audi R15, con Timo Bernhard y Alexandre Premat intente este nuevo desafío, volviendo al duelo como hace doce meses en contra de Audi y Peugeot en Road Atlanta.

ALMS - Peugeot cambios aerodinámicos para la Petit Le Mans

Para estar preparados para hacer frente a Audi. Peugeot la firma francesa no llevará a Petit Le Mans en Septiembre 26, derivado de la aerodinámica de las 24 Horas de Le Mans, sino o el enfoque más similar a la utilizada para 1.000 kilometros Spa '09.

En Road Atlanta durante nueve años, un feudo de audi, el 'Team Peugeot Total' van a campo, dos coches: el # 07 para Minassian-Lamy, mientras que Montagny-Sarrazin se levantará en el # 08. Los dos 908 tendrá dos motores que ya han salido 1.500 kilometros en la clasificación de Le Mans.

ROBERTSON RACING rumbos a las finales de 2009



Este es el comienzo de un mes muy ocupado y trotamundos de Robertson Racing. La plata del Ford GT-R y su camino con base en Atlanta de la tripulación viajarán cerca de 20.000 millas entre ahora y principios de noviembre, cuando termina su "gira mundial '. Hay tres carreras en ese lapso, a partir del sábado 12 de anual de Petit Le Mans impulsado por MAZDA6, donde el dúo de marido esposa de David y Andrea Robertson junto con David Murry, participará en las 1.000 millas / 10-horas de resistencia clásicos.

Flying Lizard team and drivers lead into last two ALMS races



It’s come down to just two remaining races in the 2009 American Le Mans Series: flagship Petit Le Mans next week at Road Atlanta, and the Monterey Sports Car Championships October 10 at Laguna Seca. Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long of the No. 45 Porsche lead the ALMS GT2 drivers’ championships, 31 points ahead of Risi Competizione drivers Jaime Melo and Pierre Kaffer, and Flying Lizard leads the team championship.

Petit Le Mans will get the green flag on Saturday, September 26 at 11:15 AM ET and will run 1000 miles or 10 hours, whichever comes first. For Petit, Marc Lieb will join Joerg Bergmeister and Long in the No. 45 Porsche, reprising the team’s Sebring lineup. The drivers for the No. 44 Porsche will be Darren Law, Seth Neiman, and Johannes van Overbeek.

Only two teams are still in the running for the GT2 team and drivers’ championships: Flying Lizard and Risi Competizione. The last two races offer a maximum of 55 points: 30 points at Petit and 25 at Laguna Seca. Flying Lizard is 31 points ahead of Risi in the team championship and 57 points ahead of BMW Rahal Letterman racing. In the drivers’ championship, Bergmeister and Long are 31 points ahead of Melo and Kaffer and 70 points ahead of Panoz Team PTG drivers Dominik Farnbacher and Ian James. If the No. 45 finishes within one position of the No. 62 Risi Ferrari–either ahead or behind–Bergmeister, Long and the team will clinch both championships.

Lizard chief strategist Thomas Blam said, “Petit Le Mans is a very difficult race. It’s not as long as Sebring or the 24 Heures du Mans, of course, but it is much more hectic. It’s very difficult for the drivers to manage traffic here: prototypes take more chances because they don’t want to get stuck behind the slower cars. We’ll have a large field for this race and several championships are still at stake, combine that with a fast, dangerous track and it will be a tough environment.”

Blam continued, “There are many strong cars in GT2 now and the field is still expanding: a new Jaguar team is entered at Petit. We have to balance being conservative with ensuring that we keep with the lead GT2 pack. We also have several teams coming from Europe and they aren’t as familiar with the ALMS rules so that will make things more complex. On the strategy side, one of the most important things is to make sure that we calculate the race length correctly. The race could run to time or distance: we have to make sure that we know the final lap count to manage fuel correctly at the end.”

Chief engineer Craig Watkins discussed car setup, “Petit presents an interesting setup challenge. The race runs from the morning to the evening so the racing conditions can change drastically over the day: we’ve seen temperature swings here of more than 30 degrees. To deal with this, we are fairly conservative in our setup here. There are eight or more tire changes in the race, some or all of which may be done under green, so tire management is critical. We have to get everything out of the tires that we can and plan for tires to last 150 percent of a stint if we have to.”

Watkins continued, “Road Atlanta is very fast. It’s a mix of turns: mostly right handers with some left handers, some are slow and some are extremely fast corners. It’s a high-consequence track: at Turn 11, drivers exit with no visibility and then carry high speed into Turn 12 where there is no runoff, just a concrete wall. We run moderate downforce on the Porsches here: it’s a tradeoff between getting as much downforce as we can and still keeping speed for the straights. We need a fast car, but it has to maximize the tires and be easy for the driver to manage. For a 1000-mile race, the reliability of the cars and the drivers’ ability to stay out of trouble can be as important as the pace.”

Endurance experts, Risi Competizione, will arrive at Road Atlanta for the 1,000 mile Petit Le Mans event with only one aim in mind. To extend its phenomenal run of consecutive GT2 victories in the sportscar “Majors” which began with the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans, encompassed last year’s Petit Le Mans and the 2009 12 Hours of Sebring, and run through to the French classic again this past June.

To take on this mission, the Houston-based team will once again be calling upon the considerable talents of former Ferrari F1 star, Mika Salo, to complement the regular ALMS points-winning driver line up of Jaime Melo and Pierre Kaffer. The trio will be chasing their own 2009 triple of international, long distance races, while Melo and Salo have been involved in all of the above named events.

Risi will be concentrating all its efforts on the “Rosso Red” #62 Ferrari F430GT as the team’s regular endurance partner, Krohn Racing, decided at the beginning of the year to confine its 2009 participation to just Sebring and Le Mans.

Every ounce of that concentration and effort will certainly be required as the entry of 31 includes 17 prototypes and some fierce competition in the GT2 category. In last year’s Petit Le Mans, which featured a slightly larger and equally stellar field, Melo and Salo staged a remarkable fight back through to victory after losing two laps in the early stages of the race due to a freak mechanical problem. A broken part from a drinks bottle connecter came loose and lodged itself temporarily under the throttle.

As Brazilian driver Jaime Melo comments: “Hopefully it will be different to last year! We had a problem which delayed us and afterwards were pushing most of the time. I hope this year we can have a good qualifying, in the top three, and that we can stay out of trouble. That’s the first thing we need to think about for this type of race. The team is really well prepared on pit stops – we showed that already during the season and I think we’ve got a good chance. We want to put it together with Sebring and Le Mans to make our season better than it is now.

“It will be challenging with all the prototypes, especially for passing. At Mosport there were only 6 or 7 prototypes and, with so many more, it’s something where we can either gain or lose time so we need to be smart enough to make sure we don’t lose time in the traffic.

“We obviously won last year and we’ve got a very good and consistent car there. I think Mika will be in good shape as well to help us in the best way so I’m pretty confident about it. We need to do some final tuning of the car to make it fast and get some tenths in the corners compared to the others, as we’re still too slow in a straight line. That’s our main problem at the moment. Anyway I think we need to keep our heads up and try to do our best with what we’ve got.”

Pierre Kaffer, who has noticeably grown in confidence over the last few races, and whose 2008 fifth place Petit Le Mans finish allowed Ferrari to claim four of the top five GT2 spots, can’t wait to get to Road Atlanta.

“I have to say I really like Petit Le Mans,” said the genial German, “but I haven’t managed to win there…yet. This year it would be nice to win and have success in all the big races – Sebring, Le Mans and Petit Le Mans; that would be a good run. The track will suit the Ferrari because there’s only one long straight. We will take part in the test the weekend before which should give us lots of time to find the right set up for qualifying and the race.

“I like the event and the track – after Sebring and Laguna it’s the track I know the best and I know that all the Risi mechanics and everyone at Ferrari will do their best so we can fight for the victory. We have more LMP1s there which will make the event even more challenging and anything can happen during a long event so there’s still a possibility to fight for the championship.”

Risi Competizione is currently in second place in the ALMS GT2 Championship standings and needs to close the 31-point deficit to Flying Lizard Motorsports to ensure any chance of Championship success. With 30 points available to the winners at Petit Le Mans, there is all to play for.

The ever popular Mika Salo is also looking forward to his ALMS return, and jokes that he “likes to think the secret to Risi’s endurance success is me!” On a slightly more serious note, he goes on to say, “It will be fun to be racing again, and I hope we can keep up our winning streak. It won’t be easy though as the competition is harder than ever; we’ve seen the new Corvettes to be very quick, and the Porsches and BMWs are not slow. But, in longer races, speed is not the key to win; you don’t have to be fast, you have to be clever.

“We have the experience, and I think that once you’ve had your first big victory it’s easier for the others to follow. We have very consistent drivers and we all compromise and adapt very well as a trio so no one suffers too much with an uncomfortable car or set up. Jaime is blinding quick which is good if you have to catch up or make up time, he can close down any gap, and Pierre is very reliable and consistent which is important in endurance races. My part is to support those guys, to keep us up there for another victory.”

Petit Le Mans is Le Mans preparation for Audi



The countdown for the 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours is underway. In preparation for the sports car highlight of the year, Audi Sport Team Joest will contest the U.S. endurance classic “Petit Le Mans” at Road Atlanta on September 26 with two Audi R15 TDI cars.

The inaugural “Petit Le Mans” race was held in 1998 and has been bringing Le Mans flair to the United States ever since. The 1,000-mile race near the U.S. metropolis Atlanta helped launch the American Le Mans Series in which Audi was the dominant brand from 2000 to 2008. The exploits of the Audi R8 and the Audi R10 TDI over the past nine years have helped Audi achieve a better development of its business in the difficult U.S. market than other premium brands. With 8,057 vehicles sold, Audi most recently recorded the second-best August result in Audi of America’s history.

By competing in the popular “Petit Le Mans” race, Audi Sport supports the market launch of TDI technology in North America: Since April 2009, the Audi Q7 TDI 3.0 has been available in the United States; in December, the Audi A3 TDI 2.0 will arrive at U.S. dealerships.

The Audi R15 TDI demonstrates the high performance capabilities of a TDI power-plant. The Audi engineers extract over 600 hp from the 5.5-liter V10 TDI engine that celebrated an important victory on its racing debut in March: Dindo Capello, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish at the wheel of the brand new LMP1 vehicle immediately won the 12-hour race at Sebring (Florida).

On the other hand, the R15 TDI’s Le Mans debut that ended in a third-place finish did not go according to Audi’s plans. The aim is for Audi Sport Team Joest to gather more racing experience with the technologically innovative racing sports car at Road Atlanta which will then be fed into the further development of the R15 TDI for 2010.

The vehicles being fielded in the U.S. race are unchanged except for adaptions suiting the special characteristics of the track at Road Atlanta. During tests at Vallelunga (Italy) in early September various set-up versions for Road Atlanta were compared.

Although the race mainly serves as a test run for Le Mans 2010, Audi would like to continue its string of exploits in the U.S. endurance classic: The brand with the four rings has contested the “Petit Le Mans” race nine times so far and each time an Audi crossed the finish line as the winner. Six races were won by the Audi R8, and three by the Audi R10 TDI.

The last three victories for Audi were clinched by the driver team Dindo Capello (Italy)/Allan McNish (Scotland) who will again be competing together and targeting a fourth consecutive triumph, a feat no driver has achieved to date. The “sister car” designated as car number 1 will be driven by the reigning ALMS Champions Lucas Luhr and Marco Werner (both Germany), who took third place last year at Road Atlanta.

Practice at Road Atlanta will start on Wednesday. Qualifying will be held on Friday afternoon. The race will start on Saturday at 11:15 am local time and will cover a distance of 1,000 miles or a maximum of ten hours into the night.

de Ferran Motorsports ready for exciting Petit Le Mans challenge



e Ferran Motorsports is hoping to add to its growing roll of honor as the 2009 American Le Mans Series moves to Road Atlanta for this year's running of the annual Petit Le Mans classic on Saturday 26 September.


The ambitious team - founded little more than a year ago by double IndyCar champion and former Indianapolis 500 winner Gil de Ferran - has been the pacesetter in the 2009 ALMS championship with four race wins, six pole positions and six fastest laps from the eight rounds held to date.

As well as all of the front-line ALMS regulars, the Petit Le Mans entry includes several of the top European teams venturing across the Atlantic for the prestigious 1000-mile/10-hour sportscar showdown held at the challenging 12-turn Road Atlanta circuit. Fresh from its victory at this year's Le Mans 24 Hours, Peugeot is fielding two of its diesel-engined coupes while defending Petit Le Mans champion Audi returns to the States with two of its diesel turbo prototypes. Neither has raced in ALMS since the season opener in Sebring - a race that saw the no.66 XM Radio de Ferran Motorsports Acura ARX-02a grab pole position on its debut. Further top class competition comes from the French-based petrol-powered Oreca squad.

"I'm very excited that we have a deeper field to compete against," enthuses de Ferran who shares the no.66 XM Radio de Ferran Motorsports Acura ARX-02a with regular co-driver Simon Pagenaud and reigning IndyCar champion Scott Dixon. "The presence of the Europeans is a great testament to both the event and the series and will make this month's Petit Le Mans one of the most exciting races to date. While the current rules do still favor the diesels, we will do our best to give them a run for their money. We managed to qualify on pole at Sebring and stay on the lead lap until encountering some new car issues that eventually led to our retirement. Since then we have evolved the Acura. It's still such a new concept but now we understand how to get more performance out of it."

As de Ferran's regular co-driver in ALMS, Pagenaud has played a major part in the developing Acura LMP1 program. "We are definitely stronger than we were at Sebring. We are better prepared and have more understanding of how to tackle a long race with this car," confirms the highly-regarded 25-year old Frenchman.

"It's going to be thrilling race and I'm really pumped up for it," he enthuses. "We're expecting to have some tough competition from the European teams. Their diesel cars have been developed mainly for Le Mans, so they will be quick on the straights but our Acura handles really well and will be strong on the twistier sections of the track. It's going to be a fascinating battle and interesting to see who comes out on top. I really enjoy the Road Atlanta track - it's one of my favorites on the ALMS calendar."

Adding to the team's strength, Dixon is reunited with de Ferran Motorsports for Petit Le Mans. It will be the 29-year-old New Zealander's third appearance for the team. He lined up alongside de Ferran and Pagenaud when finishing fifth in class at last year's Petit Le Mans and again earlier this season when securing pole position at Sebring. He's excited to be back in the no.66 XM Radio de Ferran Motorsports Acura ARX-02a for the prestigious 1000-mile/10-hour sportscar showdown.

"Driving Road Atlanta is a such a thrill behind the wheel of one of these LMP1 cars," reports the two-time IndyCar champion and winner of the 2008 Indianapolis 500.

As a previous winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona for Chip Ganassi Racing, Dixon knows what it takes to succeed in long distance sportscar events such as Petit Le Mans. He says: "Having done endurance races before with Gil and Chip's teams, you really have to have a team effort to go the distance here. Lots of elevation changes and high speed corners in these cars will make for another exciting Petit Le Mans - I can tell you that."

ALMS: Los equipos a un día de saltar a pista en Road Atlanta



La actividad del campeonato American Le Mans Series en Road Atlanta, donde este fin de semana se disputa la segunda carrera más importante de la temporada, Petit Le Mans, comenzará mañana Miércoles con la disputa de los primeros tests colectivos de los equipos inscritos.

El organizador, el IMSA, ha programado para mañana dos horas de entrenamientos en total, con una hora en exclusiva para LMP1/LMP2 y otra para GT2, compartiendo ambos grupos media hora en pista. La parrilla de inscritos tendrá finalmente, y salvo algún cambio imprevisto de última hora, treinta coches en pista y entre los que destaca como baja el equipo Corsa Motorsports, con el Ginetta-Zytek Hybrid pilotado por Johnny Mowlem y Stefan Johansson, que no será finalmente de la partida. Entre los que sí figuran están los ya anunciados equipos oficiales de Peugeot, Audi y Acura, con dos coches cada uno, más otros outsiders como Team Matmut Oreca o Drayson Racing. En GT2 hay que destacar la presencia de los equipos oficiales de BMW y Chevrolet - con Antonio García-, más la presencia de diversos equipos de Porsche y Ferrari con soporte de fábrica.

El pasado fin de semana diversos equipos, bajo una persistente lluvia, ya estuvieron en Road Atlanta aclimatándose al complicado trazado norteamericano en lo que será un preludio de lo que veremos mañana. Entre los presentes en estos entrenamientos de carácter privado, cabe mencionar a Oreca, De Ferran Motorsports, ECO Racing, Drayson Racing, Rahal Letterman Racing, Robertson Racing, LG Motorsports y Team PTG.

ALMS: ECO Racing ultima la preparacíón del Radical-AER



A solo dos dias de comenzar la actividad para la duodécima edición de Petit le Mans en Circuito de Road Atlanta; el piloto argentino José Manuel Balbiani pudo tomar contacto con el Radical-AER TDI V10 de la categoría LMP1 que conducira el proximo sabado 26 junto al japones Hideki Noda, y al sudafricano Dion Von Moltke.

El circuito fue habilitado durante el domingo para que los equipos presentes realicen un shake down de los autos y, pese a no estar a la altura de los Audi R15, tanto Balbiani como el equipo Eco Racing, dirigido por Ian Dawson, demostraron en pocas vueltas el potencial de un prototipo innovador ya que utiliza materiales reciclados y un motor de producción VW V10 tdi que penaliza bastante debido a que su peso y centro de gravedad es muy diferente a los impulsores nacidos para esta competición.

Luego de solo 10 vueltas bajo la lluvia, el argentino pudo adaptarse a los 610 HP y, sobretodo, a los frenos de carbono y a la gran velocidad de curva que llevan los prototipos que corren en la American Le Mans Series. “Pese a girar pocas vueltas y bajo el agua, estoy satisfecho con el trabajo que esta realizando el equipo y de ser parte del comienzo de una revolución ya que intentaremos demostrar que con un motor de producción se le puede competir de igual a igual a equipos cuyos presupuestos son cinco veces mas elevados que los de Eco Racing” declaró el argentino.

En cuanto a su primera experiencia en autos “sin techo”, Balbiani sintetizó: “la potencia y la velocidad de curva me los esperaba ya que la tecnología Turbo Diesel ha evolucionado mucho, pero la sensación de doblar bajo la lluvia a casi 280 km/h y frenar de 6ta a 1ra en solo 150 metros gracias a los frenos de carbono que equipan al coche fue algo unico. Ahora solo espero a los entrenamientos oficiales del miércoles para poder lograr una referencia con los rivales y espero puedan ser sobre piso seco”.
