El piloto de Williams Nico Rosberg ha obtenido el quinto mejor tiempo en la primera sesión de entrenamientos libres de esta mañana en Japón, pero el alemán tendrá que afrontar una penalización de diez posiciones en la parrilla de salida del próximo domingo debido a un cambio de motor.
Según se comenta en el paddock del Fuji Speedway, el equipo de Grove instalará una nueva unidad del motor Toyota V8 en el coche de Rosberg mañana por la mañana después de haber descubierto una avería en el motor del piloto alemán tras el GP de Bélgica de hace quince días.
Recordemos que todos los pilotos pueden utilizar un motor nuevo en las tres horas de entrenamientos libres del viernes sin correr por ello peligro de ser penalizados.

Nico Rosberg perderá diez puestos en la formación de salida por cambio
El finlandés Niko Rosberg (Williams-Toyota) perderá diez puestos en la formación de salida del Gran Premio de Japón que se disputa el próximo domingo en el circuito de Mont Fuji, al tener que cambiar el motor que utilizó hace dos semanas en Bélgica.
Rosberg fue sexto en Bélgica, pero tras la carrera, al ser revisado el motor en la fábrica, se detectó un problema que ha aconsejado a los ingenieros a cambiar el propulsor, con la correspondiente sanción.
Los pilotos que estrenarán motor por haber completado el ciclo de dos carreras o por haber abandonado en el Gran Premio de Bélgica, son los siguientes:

Q: Will it be like Indy in that higher downforce may be better suited to qualifying and lower downforce to racing?

It's something we are looking at to find the best compromise but, for sure, I don't think it will be low downforce because you will lose too much in the few high speed corners and in the slow infield. I think it will be either medium or medium-high downforce .
Q: Is it a good track to race on?
PV: Definitely, yes. We should see some overtaking moves as a result of the long straight and the tight first corner.
Q: Will it be difficult to stay close to the car in front on this final corner?
PV: It is key to close the gap to the car in front out of the last corner in order to catch a tow and be in a position to pass at the end of the straight. The very slow turns 13 to 16 at the end of sector three, before the straight, will minimize the aerodynamic turbulences and allow a faster car to attack the straight line very close to the car in front.
Q: As Fuji is Toyota's home track, does the team have an advantage in terms of preparation?
PV: No, because we don't have anything that the other teams don't have. We will certainly have a psychological boost from our Japanese fans and colleagues, but nothing technical. Like all the teams, we have all the relevant details for simulation -- the layout, elevation and track profile. We have anticipated the set-up window in which we will operate.

Traction will be a critical parameter, as cars performing poorly on the exit of turn 16 will be vulnerable to overtaking manoeuvres on the main straight, or into turn 1.
The circuit includes only two medium to high-speed corners, at turn 3 and the long 180 right-hander of turns 4 and 5. The latter in particular is likely to see the cars suffering from a high amount of understeer, which the drivers and engineers will work to dial out through the weekend without compromising the slow-speed performance.
In terms of downforce level, the circuit has re-designed on the modern principle, which requires teams to sacrifice lap-time (and downforce) in order to achieve competitive top speeds on the straight to make up, or defend, position. As such, the cars will be running lower-than-optimum wing settings for the twistier sections, further emphasising the importance of good mechanical performance.
The brakes will have a relatively easy time, with just two major braking events, into turns 1 and 10 -- and plenty of time to cool in between. Ride is an unknown as yet: the new track surface is likely to be smooth, but the extent to which the kerbs can be used will only be seen on Friday morning.
In terms of tyre energies, the circuit is unlikely to be particularly severe owing to the absence of high-speed corners; however, rear tyre wear is likely to be an important parameter owing to the heavy traction demands, and the penalty that excessive wear will bring in terms of making a driver vulnerable to overtaking. Bridgestone will make available the soft and medium compounds from its 2007 range for this race.

Fuji is not expected to provide a particularly tough test of the V8 engines, but the problems it poses are poles apart. The long main straight will see the engines at full throttle for over 17 seconds, providing a severe test for some of the major moving parts.
For most of the rest of the circuit, though, good low-end performance will be critical and a torquey engine will be an important asset in launching the cars out of the low-speed corners towards the end of the lap. Smooth mapping will also be important for maintaining car stability, as the cars will often be downshifting while turning and braking in the final part of the lap. Fuel consumption is expected to be very close to the season average of 2.4kg per lap

Not particularly, no, and especially coming after Monza and Spa. There is a very long straight of around 1.5km, but it is preceded by a slow corner and the longest period spent at full throttle is under 20 seconds - compared to 25 seconds in Spa. The predicted percentage of the lap at full throttle is around 50%, which is below the annual average.
So that means we have no particular worries about engine reliability, particularly because the track lies around 500m above sea level, which makes life easier for the V8: the engine develops less power, the loads on the pistons are reduced… But that doesn't mean we won't be paying our usual attention to reliability.

bueno.. segun palabras de kimmi.. en la primera tanda les fue bien.. en la segunda empezaro a hacer algunos cambios para los sectores 2 y 3 y al parecer el balance del auto no estuvo como esperaban.. volvieron al setting de la primera tanda y no fueron tan rapidos ocmo esperaban
