Muller Lidera El Trio De Chevrolet
1ª carrera:
Chevrolet ha dominado a placer la primera carrera del Campeonato del Mundo de Turismos disputada hoy en Curitiba. La aparición de la lluvia, un elemento en el que nunca se desenvolvieron bien los SEAT Leon TDI, ha dejado expedito el triunfo, con tripete incluido, a los hombres de Ray Mallock Limited.
La lluvia, que ya había aparecido a primera hora de la mañana, ha vuelto a hacer acto de presencia antes de la carrera matinal del Mundial, que ha tenido una vuelta detrás del safety car, y ya desde la arrancada se ha visto que iba a ser un monólogo de Chevrolet. Jordi Gené, segundo ayer en parrilla, se ha salido por dos ocasiones en la primera vuelta efectiva de carrera, e iniciaba una cascada de errores de casi todos los pilotos de SEAT.
Ello permitía a Yvan Muller, Robert Huff y Alain Menu escaparse por este orden en cabeza, mientras Gabriele Tarquini, el mejor de los pilotos de SR-Sport, se mantenía cuarto a distancia. Los dos BMW de RBM han estado buena parte de la carrera quinto y sexto, con Andy Priaulx y Augusto Farfus luchando por la posición entre ellos pero sin poder inmiscuirse en la lucha por el podio. De las catorce vueltas programadas, en las últimas el asfalto estaba prácticamente seco, pero ello no ha privado a Muller de entrar seguido por Huff y Menu y logrando el primer triplete del equipo en el campeonato. Tarquini era cuarto, sumando puntos muy valiosos, con Priaulx quinto y Farfus sexto. Gené era el mejor español en meta en séptima posición seguido por su compañero Tom Coronel.
En el resto de clasificaciones Fredy Barth, noveno absoluto con un SEAT de SR-Sport, era el mejor de los rookies mientras Sergio Hernández, con el BMW 320si de Proteam Motorsport, se ha impuesto en el Trofeo de Independientes tras los problemas y salidas de pista de hombres como Mehdi Bennani o Stefano D´Aste. Franz Engstler era segundo con otro BMW y el chino Darryl O´Young era tercero.

Doblete De SR-Sport En Seco
2ª carrera:
La segunda carrera del Campeonato del Mundo de Turismos en Curitiba ha tenido un desarrollo similar a la primera, aunque con protagonistas diferentes.
Si en lluvia los Chevrolet se han mostrado intratables, en seco ha ocurrido lo mismo con los SEAT. En la arrancada los Leon TDI de SR-Sport pilotados por Tom Coronel y Jordi Gené, que salían en primera línea de acuerdo a los resultados de la primera carrera, han resistido perfectamente a los BMW de Augusto Farfus y Andy Priaulx. En el final de recta los damnificados eran Coronel y Priaulx, que se tocaban dañando irreparablemente sus monturas.
Con ellos dos fuera, y Farfus superado por los tres Chevrolet Cruze LT de Alain Menu, Yvan Muller y Robert Huff, Gené se ha puesto en cabeza seguido por Gabriele Tarquini. El piloto catalán permitía adelantar al transalpino antes del ecuador de la carrera y desde ese momento ambos se han escapado de sus perseguidores para entrar en meta como ganadores. Al cabo de catorce vueltas Tarquini era el vencedor con Gené a su rebufo, mientras Menu era tercero tras una dura lucha con Muller. Huff era quinto, siendo Farfus sexto el mejor de los BMW. Cerraban los puntos Tiago Monteiro y Michel Nykajer, ambos con coches de SR-Sport/SUNRED. El húngaro Norbert Michelisz era el mejor entre los rookies con otro SEAT Leon TDI de Zengo Motorsport.
En el Trofeo de Independientes segunda victoria, contra todo pronóstico, de Sergio Hernández. El piloto de Proteam Motorsport ha llevado al BMW 320si italiano hasta la victoria tras soportar las acometidas de Franz Engstler, segundo a la postre, y Mehdi Bennani.
En las clasificaciones generales Tarquini y Muller figuran empatados a puntos mientras en los privados Hernández ocupa la primera posición.

Yvan MULLER – Winner of Race: “It’s great to win and get fourth in the second race so I'm very happy. The race was complicated because at the beginning there was some standing water. Then the track dried out and to be on the wet tyres on a dry track was not easy. After five laps I wanted to save the tyres because I knew it was drying but I was saving a bit too much and when Huff came up behind me I had to wake up.”
Gabriele TARQUINI – Winner of Race 2: “We have no team orders so it was a great race. I had a tough time over the winter but in qualifying the car was great. The plan was to get a podium and maybe a win and I did that so it’s a fantastic start to the season. The SR-Sport team have done a fantastic job. I feel really satisfied and this victory is special. Last year I knew I could fight for the title but this year my plan is to score some victories and the first one is here.“
Rob HUFF – 2nd in Race 1: “It was a dream start to the season for Chevrolet. The car was fantastic in qualifying and we had a great start to the championship getting some good points in the bag. We now look to continue this for the rest of the season.”
Alain MENU – 3rd in Race 1 and Race 2: “In Race 1 I outbraked myself into the first corner and allowed Huff to get through. In Race 2 I backed off too much towards the end and Yvan managed to close in but it wasn’t really a problem. It is a great result for the whole team and for myself.”
Jordi GENÉ – 2nd in Race 2: “It is fantastic to score here. I was disappointed going off twice in Race 1 so in the second race I was very conscious I needed to not make a mistake.”
Sergio HERNÁNDEZ – Independents’ Winner Race 1 and Race 2: “I started from last in Race 1 but I managed to stay on track and at the end the car was really good. It was thanks to D’Aste and O’Young coming together though that I got the win. In Race 2, I was fighting for the whole race so I think it was more difficult than Race 1, but we managed to stay in front”
Fredy BARTH – Race 1 Rookie Challenge winner: “It was a great experience for me. It was the first time in a WTCC car, in Curitiba, in a diesel car so everything was new! I was just taking care to stay on track, but towards the end I felt more comfortable with the car and was able to get this win.”
Michel NYKJÆR – Race 2 Rookie Challenge winner: “It is fantastic for me. It’s my first time in WTCC and at Curitiba driving in the rain, so this was a very good result for me. It’s very nice.”
