Bridgestone reveals narrow F1 2010 tyre
245/55R13 will replace 270/55R13 from Bahrain onwards
Bridgestone has shown off the new front tyre shape for Formula 1 210. A 245/55R13 front rubber will replace the 270/55R13 used this season. "This will help to bring a better grip balance between
the front and the rear grip of the cars" explains Hirohide Hamashima. "When we changed back to slick tyres the grooved tyre size
was retained, meaning that the front gained proportionally more grip than the rear. This is
addressed by making the front tyre narrower."
This and the move to larger fuel tanks could have significant implications on chassis design with wheelbase and weight distribution key factors.
