Reporte Oficial
Nissan Conclude Dominant Weekend with Second Win
Lucas Luhr and Michael Krumm made it a double success for Nissan with victory in the Championship Race at Portimao. Stefan Mucke and Darren Turner in the Young Driver Aston Martin No.8 got the better of an absorbing battle for second place from the Sumo Power Nissan GT-R No.21 of Jamie Campbell-Walter and David Brabham.
There was bitter disappointment for the Qualifying Race winners and pole sitters Richard Westbrook and Peter Dumbreck in the JRM Nissan GT-R No.22. Having led the race by as much as six seconds in the hands of Algarve specialist Westbrook, the car developed a gearbox problem when in the lead following the pit stops and was forced to retire with 12 minutes remaining.
In the post race technical checks the minimum weight of the front upper wishbones of the nr23 and n21 Nissans were found not in compliance with the homologation form.
After a hearing the FIA Stewards accepted that the homologation form contains a formal mistake and decided to impose a fine of 5000 Euros for each car and an obligation to correct the homologation form before the next event (Stewards Decisions 13 and 14).
Marc Basseng and Markus Winkelhock finished 6th and lead the Driver’s Championship with 57 points, 20 points ahead of Michael Krumm and Lucas Luhr and Darren Turner and Stefan Mücke, who are all tied on 37 points. Hexis AMR lead the Team Championship with 73 points, just one point ahead of JR Motorsports and All-Inkl.com Münnich Motorsport, who both have 72 points.
The next round of the FIA GT1 World Championship will take place in Germany at the Sachsenring on 13-15 May.

PREVIEW: Festival of GT Racing at the Sachsenring
This weekend the 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship travels to the Sachsenring in Germany for the first-ever visit by an FIA GT Championship. Some of the drivers competing in the GT1 World Championship have experience of racing on the 3.7km circuit in other series, but the sheer power of the GT1 cars should provide some spectacular entertainment for the large crowd that is expected for the event. Two German teams, Young Driver AMR and All-Inkl.com Münnich Motorsport, as well as nine German drivers feature on the GT1 entry list, including Alex Müller, Christian Hohenadel, Michael Krumm, Marc Basseng, Markus Winkelhock, Stefan Mücke, Marc Hennerici, Dominik Schwäger and Lucas Luhr, there will be plenty of local interest for the German fans to follow.
In Zolder for Round 2 of the GT1 World Championship the Saxony team All-Inkl.com Münnich Motorsport Lamborghini was the dominant force. The nr 37 Lamborghini of Dominik Schwäger secured the teams second pole position in two races but it was the nr38 car of Marc Basseng and Markus Winkelhock which took the chequered flag in both races, to leave Belgium with maximum points and the lead in the Driver’s Championship. The Münnich Motorsport team are based not far from the Sachsenring in Friedersdorf and will be aiming for the top step of the podium once again at their home track.
In Round 3 in Portugal the JR Motorsport Nissans were the dominant force, with Richard Westbrook and Peter Dumbreck leading their teammates Michael Krumm and Lucas Luhr for a team 1-2 in the Qualifying Race. Jamie Campbell-Walter and David Brabham, in the Sumo Power Nissan, finished in 3rd to give the Japanese manufacturer the first ever 1-2-3 in the FIA GT1 World Championship. In the Championship Race, Dumbreck retired after the pitstops but Krumm took the chequered flag to complete a dominant weekend for Nissan.
Five manufacturers are represented on the GT1 grid this season, Aston Martin, Corvette, Ford, Lamborghini and Nissan, with two teams of two cars for each marquee. The performance of the cars is balanced by the FIA to ensure close, action packed racing for each of the 60-minute races.
Aston Martin is represented by French team Hexis AMR and German team Young Driver AMR. The Hexis team travelled to last round in Portugal as leaders in Teams Championship thanks to the win in Abu Dhabi and a podium finish by the second car of Christian Hohenadel, the reigning FIA GT3 European Champion, and Andrea Piccini in Belgium. The French team retained their championship lead, but it was reduced to just 1 point. The Young Driver team scored valuable points in Zolder with Tomas Enge / Alex Müller taking two 3rd places. Darren Turner and Stefan Mücke took a hard fought 2nd place in the Championship Race in Portugal, the only top 3 finish for a car other than a Nissan.
The Corvette teams consist of Exim Bank Team China and DKR Engineering. Dutch pairing of Mike Hezemans and Nicky Catsburg had a strong showing in the opening round and followed this up with a second place finish in the Qualifying Race and a fighting 5th in the Championship Race. Matteo Bobbi has replaced Jaime Camara in the DKR Engineering Corvette but he or Michael Rossi have yet to score and the Luxembourg team will be hoping for better luck in Germany.
Both Ford teams are based in Belgium, with the Marc VDS Racing Team having a very bumpy ride in Abu Dhabi with engine issues causing sleepless nights for the mechanics as they struggled to find the problem. However they had the consolation when their hard work put Maxime Martin and Frederic Makowiecki in a race winning position in the Qualifying Race at Zolder. They then followed up with two points scoring finishes in Belgium. The Belgian Racing team is new to GT1 World this year and their two cars run in the black, red and yellow national colours. The team has had a difficult start to the season. As in Portugal the nr9 Ford will be driven by Vanina Ickx and Christoffer Nygaard, while Antoine Leclerc is joined by Yann Clairay who replaces Martin Matzke in the nr10 car.
The Lamborghini Murcielago won three times in 2010 in the hands of the Reiter team. In 2011 All-Inkl.com Münnich Motorsport is joined by Swiss Racing, who switch to the Italian manufacturer from the Nissans they ran last season. All-Inkl’s Marc Basseng and Marcus Winklehock have scored three podiums in the first four races, however the nr38 Lamborghini had to carry 50kg of success ballast as a result and the team had to work hard to overcome the extra weight in Portugal last week. Despite the weight, they still managed to score championship points, and are lying 20 points ahead of their nearest rivals in the Driver’s Championship. The Swiss Racing team boasts the services of the highly experienced Karl Wendlinger and Peter Kox, who had their best ever GT1 World Championship finish in Zolder, where they finished 4th, followed with a 5th in Portugal. They will be aiming to further improve this weekend in Germany.
The two Nissan teams have highly experienced driver line ups. 2010 team Sumo Power GT are joined by JR Motorsports this season running the Nissan GT-R. JR Motorsports had a very successful first weekend in Abu Dhabi with three top 3 finishes but a mixture of bad luck and technical problems saw them flounder in Belgium. The team dominated in Portugal with two wins and a second, and will be hoping to repeat the performance in Germany. Sumo Power’s driver line up has former F1 drivers, a Le Mans 24 Hour winner and two former FIA GT Champions. Zolder saw both cars eliminated in a start line crash but Portugal brought better luck with David Brabham and Jamie Campbell-Walter taking two 3rd place finishes and Ricardo Zonta and Enrique Bernoldi also taking some useful championship points in the Championship Race. Tourist Trophy winner Warren Hughes is rejoinging the Sumo Power team, replacing Ricardo Zonta in the nr20 Nissan.
There have been some small changes to the regulations for the new season to help improve the show even further. The teams are now allowed to use six sets of tyres, instead of four, during the weekend, which means each team get two sets of tyres for both races. There are more championship points available for the Qualifying Race, with the top six finishers scoring 8-6-4-3-2-1 instead of just the top three finishers. The points for the Championship Race remain unchanged, with 25 points awarded to the winner down to 1 point for 10th place.

Re: CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL FIA GT1 2011

Round 4 – Sachsenring, Germany
Qualifying
14th May 2011
All-Inkl Lamborghini Inherits Pole at Home Track
The No.37 All-Inkl Lamborghini took its third pole position of 2011 in the Sachsenring, although only after the No.11 Exim Bank Team China Corvette had its times discounted for an infringement during qualifying. The two cars had been locked in a battle for the front row, with the Corvette eventually emerging fastest, just 0.059s ahead of the Lamborghini. However the No.11 machine then had its best times discounted, dropping to the bottom of the pile in Q3 - with the No.37 Lamborghini inheriting pole position as a result.**
Second went to the No.3 Hexis Aston Martin of Stef Dusseldorp and Clivio Piccione, with the sister No.8 Young Driver DB9 of Stefan Mücke and Darren Turner rounding out the top three.
The tricky Sachsenring circuit caught several drivers out during Qualifying, and both Q1 and Q2 were split by red flags as the No.41 and No.10 Fords respectively spun into the gravel and had to be rescued. The No.41 Ford had set the pace in Practice, Pre-Qualifying and Q1 before its spin, from which it was not able to continue. Three Nissans once again made it into Q3, with Warren Hughes enjoying an ideal return as he and Enrique Bernoldi put the No.20 Sumo Power GT fourth.
The highest Ford was the No.40 Marc VDS of Bas Leinders and Marc Hennerici - with its sister No.41 GT and both Belgian Racing Fords ending their session in the gravel. The No.38 All-Inkl Lamborghini was the biggest casualty in Q1 meanwhile, as Markus Winkelhock and Marc Basseng - currently leading by 20 points in the Drivers' Standings - missed out by just eight thousandths of a second.
The Qualifying Race for Round 4 of the FIA GT1 World Championship will take place at 14:15 (local) today.
** NOTE: Article 132(C)
During Q3, any driver coming into the pit lane and stopping in front of his pit will have all the times that he has set up to that moment cancelled by the Stewards.
Dominik Schwäger,
Nr37 All-Inkl Münnich Motorsport Lamborghini Murcielago 670 RSV
“This was a big surprise for us. We have been struggling all weekend with understeer, and the track doesn’t really suit us, but we seem to have improved a lot. Q1 was very difficult and there was a red flag on our hot lap, so we just made it. Then Nicky (Pastorelli) went into the car in Q2 and did a 1:19.3, which wasn’t bad and I wasn’t sure if I could do the same time.
“I pushed a bit more and I was really surprised, I was five hundredths behind pole. I messed it up in the final corner, I was a bit too early on the power, but with a front row start we were more than happy and now pole. I’m not so sure that is a good sign, but I think we just try and forget the first races, have a good day today and collect the points. I hope it stays this way all weekend.”
Nicky Pastorelli
Nr37 All-Inkl Münnich Motorsport Lamborghini Murcielago 670 RSV
“It’s very important here to start on pole because overtaking is very difficult, so we are really happy with this result. Q1 and Q2 were a little bit difficult with yellow and red flags, but we made it and in the end Q3 is the only one that really counts. For us, the pressure never changes much but we will have a lot of support here this weekend so hopefully we can have a good result also for them.”
Stef Dusseldorp
Nr3 Hexis AMR Aston Martin DB9
“I am very happy. Yesterday we had a bit of a struggle in Practice but we knew we were quick, so we changed the car last night and it felt a lot better. To be on the front row is amazing; especially after the disastrous weekend we had in Portimao. Now we hope we can score some points and get in the rankings again.”
Clivio Piccione,
Nr3 Hexis AMR Aston Martin DB9
“We were really unlucky in Q2 (they were in the drop when the red flag came out) and the same thing happened in Portimao – new tyres, on my first lap and the red flag comes out. The team thought about putting a new set on again, but we took a risk and went out on the same tyres because we wanted a chance to be on the front. After that Stef (Dusseldorp) did a great job.”
Stefan Mücke
Nr8 Young Driver AMR Aston Martin DB9
“We have a little bit of success ballast on board which makes it harder, so I’m absolutely happy with third. We had little problems yesterday but now the car is getting better and better. Darren (Turner) did a great job in Q2, and there were a lot of red flags unfortunately so we used our new tyres up. I was out on old tyres for Q3 and for that third is pretty good, so we are happy. It’s my home race, some friends and family are here and it’s nice to be driving.”
Darren Turner
Nr8 Young Driver AMR Aston Martin DB9
“The red flags helped actually because it gave us a bit more time to think about what to do with the car. The first run wasn’t great, but the second was good and the time surprised me as well. It was a fun lap, I’ve not been that scared for a while so I’m really pleased. It’s one of those places where the first half is tight and twisty and after that it’s a rollercoaster, so the race is going to be pretty exciting.”
Enrique Bernoldi
Nr20 Sumo Power GT Nissan GT-R
"We came here thinking that this is not a track which favours the Nissans so much. We are P5 but still a way off P1. P5 is quite a good position to start the Qualifying Race. Ricardo (Zonta) is not here and Warren (Hughes) came in and did quite a good job. It looks quite good for us, better than expected."
Maxime Martin,
Nr41 Marc VDS Racing Team Ford GT Matech
"I made a mistake at turn 5 and spun off into the gravel. It happens but it makes our job more difficult for the race of course. We still have the pace so even though overtaking is tough here at Sachsenring, we just have to do our best in the race."
Marc Basseng,
Nr38 All-Inkl Münnich Motorsport Lamborghini Murcielago 670 RSV
"Our objective was to get a top 10 position in Qualifying and then defend. The car is not good enough here. For one lap we can manage it but the long tight left handers are not good for us. We have big understeer due to the lack of the front aero we have compared to the Astons and the Fords, that is our problem here. I am not disappointed about that because every car suits one track more or less. So if Sachsenring is not our track then that's how it is."

Re: CAMPEONATO MUNDIAL FIA GT1 2011

Frederic Makowiecki
nr41 Marc VDS Racing Team Ford GT Matech
"The start there was a crash in the first corner, and when the Safety Car came in that’s when I really started to push. The car is actually really good on this track, and it was possible to overtake further. Also, the team made a really good pit stop when I came in, and that allowed us to exit in first place.
“Max (Martin) was really safe, and he finished on top so it was perfect for us. The team informed me I could do three of four laps, so I continued until just before the pit window closed and we were able to jump into the lead. It’s really important for the team, for everybody, because they worked very hard for this and after our difficult start to the championship, we hope to fight for the rest of the season.”
Maxime Martin
nr41 Marc VDS Racing Team Ford GT Matech
"I saw the Aston Martin in my mirrors, so I knew we were in front. It was a little bit tricky with cold tyres at first, but we had good pace so I got a little gap and continued to push. We have to thank the team though, because without this pit stop I think it would have been more difficult. We were a little bit quicker at the end of the race, but at the beginning I was pushing very hard on cold tyres. We know we can win, so we look forward to tomorrow.”
Stef Dusseldorp
nr3 Hexis AMR Aston Martin DB9
“I didn’t expect the Ford to be in front of me after the pit stop – when we did our stop we went on new tyres and I pushed hard to get a big gap behind me. I knew the Ford was lapping quickly, but I was quite surprised to see them in front of me. Let’s hope for another nice race and good point for the championship tomorrow.”
Clivio Piccione
nr3 Hexis AMR Aston Martin DB9
“The start was okay, I missed my timing a little bit but otherwise the run was good. I paced myself on the Lamborghini in front, and with the Aston Martin behind me we had a big gap so I was not expecting to be fighting with the Ford at the end of the race. We did it in Abu Dhabi and now here though, so I think we’ll be fighting them more in the future.”
Darren Turner
nr8 Young Driver AMR Aston Martin DB9
“My start wasn’t particularly great, I couldn’t see the lights at all, so I nearly got nailed into the first corner but just managed to hang on. Then it was a little bit touch and go with Enrique (Bernoldi) for a few laps, until thankfully I managed to break away and then towards the end of the stint managed to join the battle for third. Overall very happy, the guys did a good job in the pit stop and Stefan did a great job getting us into third.”
Stefan Mücke
nr8 Young Driver AMR Aston Martin DB9
“I was a bit surprised to see the Nissans come out in front of me after the pit stop. I managed to get one back in the first lap, but the other one was quite strong and it was fast on the straight, so it was difficult to catch up. I was slightly faster but couldn’t really overtake, and then two laps to go he ran a bit wide and I went down the inside. I am absolutely happy that we are third, it’s a good place to start for tomorrow so let’s hope we have a clean race and get some points.”

The nr 41 Marc VDS Ford of Maxime Martin led the field into the first turn with Stef Dusseldorp in the nr3 Hexis AMR Aston Martin on the outside of the Ford as the pair vied for the lead. The nr3 was pushed wide and onto the gravel by the Ford, allowing the nr8 Young Driver Aston of Stefan Mucke to nip through and take the lead. At Turn 2 the nr5 Swiss Racing Lamborghini of Karl Wendlinger and the nr7 Young Driver Aston Martin of Tomas Enge collided, tipping the Lamborghini into a spin. The unfortunate Max Nilsson in the nr6 Swiss Racing Lamborghini t-boned his teammates car and was left stranded on the circuit with severe front end damage. Both the nr5 and nr7 cars pulled off the circuit into retirement two corners later and the safety car was deployed to recover the stricken Nilsson car.
The race was restarted at the end of lap 5 just as rain began to fall on to the circuit. Christian Hohenadel in the nr4 Hexis Aston was challenging the nr7 Young Driver Aston for the lead. However it wasn't until lap 10 that Hohenadel took the lead into Turn 1 but as soon as he was free he opened up a gap to Mucke's car.
Meanwhile the nr41 Marc VDS Ford slowed with a punctured right rear tyre, with damage to the bodywork. Martin pulled into the pitlane but the car retired and took no further part in the race.
Mike Hezemans was making progress in the Exim Bank Team China Corvette from 14th on the grid, moving up to 8th and challenging the nr21 Sumo Power GT Nissan of Jamie Campbell-Walter for 7th.
On lap 11 Stefan Mucke lost another place as he was passed at Turn 1 by Dominik Schwager in the nr37 All Inkl.com Lamborghini. Meanwhile the rain had stopped and the teams put away their Michelin wets and prepared for the pit stop window to open.
The leaders came in and went back out in the same order, with Andrea Piccini now leading in the Hexis Aston from Nicky Pastorelli in the All-Inkl Lamborghini and Darren Turner in the Young Driver Aston. The main beneficiary of the pitstops was the nr3 Hexis Aston of Clivio Piccione, which emerged in 5th place in between the nr20 and nr21 Nissans.
Piccini had a comfortable lead but Pastorelli was under pressure from Turner for the first few laps after the pitstops but the Italian started to pull away from the British driver aby lap 23. Championship leader Marc Basseng's weekend finished on a low note when the nr37 All-Inkl.com Lamborghini went straight on at Turn 8 with a problem with the rear tyre.
Back at the front of the field Piccini was managing to maintain a comfortable gap to Pastorelli's Lamborghini, who in turn was a comfortable two seconds ahead of the third placed Aston Martin of Darren Turner. Further back Nicky Catsburg in the nr11 Exim Bank Corvette was challenging David Brabham in the nr20 Sumo Power Nissan but the Australian just held his line and his position until the chequered flag.
At the flag it was Andrea Piccini who took the first win for the nr4 Hexis AMR Aston Martin DB9, taking the lead in the Driver's Championship for himself and Christian Hohenadel in the process. Hohenadel and Piccini now have 61 points to Marc Basseng's and Markus Winkelhock on 57. Darren Turner and Stefan Mucke are third on 56 points. THe result also means Hexis AMR extend their lead in the Team Championship to 17 points over All-Inkl.com Munnich Motorsport.
Christian Hohenadel also becomes the first FIA GT3 European Champion to win an FIA GT1 World Championship race. 2008 FIA GT3 Champion James Ruffier won a race in the FIA GT Championship at the wheel of a GT1 class Corvette in 2009 but Hohenadel is the first GT3 Champion to win a GT1 World Championship race.
The next race is at Silverstone on the 3-5 June when the drivers in the FIA GT1 World Championship will compete for the world famous Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy. The Championship will also be the first to use the new pits complex at Silverstone, which will be officially unveilled on Tuesday 17th May.
