1st 3.267
2st 1.794
3st 1.552
4st 1.176
5st 0.974
Reverse 3.416
Final gear ratio 4.680 (for 1st, 2nd and reverse gear ratio)
3.441(for 3nd, 4th and 5th gear ratio)

The third all-aluminum engine of Hyundai Motor Company debuted in the fifth-generation Hyundai Sonata sedan, which was unveiled in August 2004 in S. Korea.
It features hollow stainless-steel DOHC with powder-metal cam lobes, pent-roof combustion chamber and shimless bucket tappets in the cylinder head.
BorgWarner Morse TEC supplies the complete set of timing system that uses the company's proprietary silent timing chains. CVVT(Continuously-variable valve timing) works on the intake side.
The aluminum alloy engine block, which is formed using high-pressure die-cast method, has a unique Metaldyne-supplied cassette-type balance shaft module with a two-stage oil pump built-in. In the lower-end, the block is reinforced by a ladder frame. Other notable features include fracture-split sintered connecting rods and stainless-steel exhaust manifold.
Theta's EMS(engine management system) software is EMS-II from Siemens VDO and the 32-bit PCM(Powertrain Control Module) calculates the amount of intake air by utilizing a contamination-proof hot-film type MAF(mass air flow) sensor.
Chrysler Corporation produces a modified version of Theta, dubbed World Engine, in Dundee, Michigan. Theta and World Engine share the same basic cylinder head and enigne block design. Chrysler engineered their own air intake system and exhaust manifold which is made of gray cast iron.
The World Engine also differs in the EMS as it measures the amount of intake air indirectly using a MAP sensor, another cost-saving feature of the Chrysler-modified engine.
Contrary to the official line of Chrysler Corporation, the Theta engine factory in Asan, S. Korea is not a part of the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance. Construction of the Korean factory began in August 2003 and it came on line in April 2004. It is owned and operated by Hyundai Motor Company.
An all-new 6th generation Sonata was launched in August 2004 in Korea. A new platform also was borne out of the project NF for total cost of 290 billion won. The company's first all-aluminum I4 engine, dubbed Theta, debuted in the new Sonata. Engine choices at launch were a 16-valve 2.0 L and a 2.4 L that produces 166 ps at 5,800 rpm.
The U.S. launch of the all-new Sonata kicked off with the historical opening of the first U.S. assembly plant for the Korea-based Hyundai Motor Company in May 2005. The plant is located in Montgomery, Alabama. Hyundai claims the car will launch to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.6 sec source: Car and driver, and have a top speed of 147 mph for the V6. But the car is frequently reported to be going at speeds beyond 160 mph in Korea due to the gear ratios of the sedan.
2006/2007 models of this sedan did not receive a speed limiter, but U.S. officials are planning to put a limiter because of the powerful transmission when combined with the V6 version. Recently a man was caught doing 157 mph in a rental Sonata which is often discussed in enthusiast forums.
The new Sonata is 2 in (50.8 mm) longer and taller and 1 in (25.4 mm) wider than the previous generation. The US EPA now classifies the Sonata as a "large car". It is priced at US$18,500. A V6 Sonata is priced at US$23,500.
The Sonata received the Good Design Award in passenger car category from the JIDPO (Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization).
The Sonata was named "Best New Family Car (under $35,000)" in the 2006 Canadian Car of the Year awards.
